Indoor Track and Field Teams Competed At Hillsdale Tune Up

HILLSDALE, MICH. – The Northwood University indoor track and field teams traveled to the Hillsdale Tune Up meet Saturday (February 21).

No team scoring was taken in the meet, which featured athletes from Northwood, Hillsdale, Findlay, Olivet, Alma, Adrian, Albion, Oakland, among others. The Timberwolves claimed multiple top spots with five first place, six second and seven third place finishers.

On the men's side, Jeremy Wilchcombe (Freeport, Bahamas / St. Georges(NU-TX)) earned another provisional qualifying mark of 14.44 meters in the triple jump – after jumping 14.40 meters earlier this season. Freshman Exhildi Prekaj (Walled Lake, Mich. / Central) also took first in the shot put with a throw of 14.97 meters. Sophomore Rayvaun Tyler (Orlando, Fla. / Oak Ridge) took second in the 60 meter dash at 6.96, while junior Josh Gardner (Howell, Mich.) ran 22.54 in the 200 meter dash also finished second. Marcus Johnson (Center, Tx. / Center (NU-Texas)) finished second in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.53 meters and Jon Thompson (Albuquerque, N. Mex. / NU-Texas) took third at 6.50 meters. The team of Johnson, Tray Thompson (Fort Worth, Tx. / Duncanville (NU-Texas)), Karmine Jarmon (Chicago, Ill. / Simeon) and Wally Clay (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Flint Southwestern) earned a second place finish in the 4x400 meter relay with another NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:19.78. the same team ran 3:17.48 last weekend to originally qualify. In the 400 meter dash, Clay took third with a time of 50.08, while Kyle Vandersyde (Hopkins, Mich.) ran an 8.79 in the 60 meter hurdles for third.

For the women, freshman Kara Young (Zephyrhills, Fla.) earned a first place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.90. In second was Dana Turner (Maywood, Ill. / Walther Lutheran) at 8.25 while Kristal Harvey (Garden City, Mich.) ran 8.32 for third. Sophomore Elaina Meadows (Schoolcraft, Mich.) also finished first in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.38 meters while Turner earned second at 5.15 meters. Jennifer McKenna (Orchard Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) ran 2:26.08 in the 800 meter run and finished in second. Taking third in the 200 meter dash was Young clocking 25.89, while Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) also finished third in the mile run with a time of 5:25.28. The women's 4x400 team of Darci Asel Templin (Essexville, Mich. / Garber), Madison Arnouts (Grand Ledge, Mich.), Drew Findlay (Reese, Mich.) and McKenna ran 4:15.05 for a first place finish.

The Timberwolves travel to Saginaw Valley State University for the GLIAC Championships next weekend, February 28 and March 1.
