Indoor Track & Field Teams Compete At GLIAC Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. - The Northwood University track and field teams competed at the 2015 GLIAC Indoor Championships Saturday and Sunday (February 28 and March 1).

This year's event was hosted by Saginaw Valley State University.

The men's team placed 10th overall with 10 points. Grand Valley State was the overall winner with 155 points, Tiffin followed with 107. Senior Wally Clay (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Flint Southwestern) led the men with a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash clocking 22.10 in the finals and 22.06 in the preliminary heat – good for the third and fourth best times in school history. Junior Jeremy Wilchcombe (Freeport, Bahamas / St. Georges(NU-TX)) recorded another provisional qualifying mark of 14.43 meters in the triple jump to finish seventh – after jumping 14.44 meters earlier this season. Sophomores Jon Thompson (Albuquerque, N. Mex. / NU-Texas) and Rayvaun Tyler (Orlando, Fla. / Oak Ridge) each earned a seventh place finish. Thompson jumped 6.90 meters in the long jump, while Tyler ran a 6.97 in the 60 meter dash. Sophomore Kyle Vandersyde (Hopkins, Mich.) took eighth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.66.

On the women's side the Timberwolves placed 13th overall with four points. Grand Valley State was the overall winner with 156.5 points, followed by Ashland with 107. Junior Claudia Coleman(Keller,Tx / Fossil Ridge (NU-Texas)) led all Timberwolves with a fifth place finish in the 200 meter dash. Her preliminary time of 25.21 and finals time of 25.39 is now the second and third best in school history, behind Danielle Miller at 24.54. Sophomore Elaina Meadows (Schoolcraft, Mich.) marked a jump of 5.37 meters in the women's long jump, good for ninth place. Dana Turner(Maywood, Ill. / Walther Lutheran) finished right behind Meadows with a jump of 5.34 meters.
