Track and Field Teams Compete In GVSU's Al Owens Invite

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Northwood University track and field teams traveled to the Al Owens Invite, hosted by Grand Valley State, on Friday and Saturday (April 17 and 18).

Jeremy Wilchcombe (Freeport, Bahamas / St. Georges(NU-TX)) took first place in the triple jump with a provisionally qualifying and record-breaking jump of 14.86 meters (48'9"). NU's previous record was 47', set back in 1987 by Tim Davis. Senior Wally Clay (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Flint Southwestern) and Mike Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) earned a seventh and eighth place finish in the 400 meter dash with times of 49.51 and 49.53, respectively. Junior Tray Thompson (Fort Worth, Tx. / Duncanville (NU-Texas)) ran 1:56.29 in the 800 meter run for a tenth place finish, while Paul Evans (Lenox, Mich. / New Haven) took fourth in the discus with a throw of 48.91 meters. The 4x100 meter relay team of Jeremy Wilchcombe, Wally Clay, Karmine Jarmon (Chicago, Ill. / Simeon) and Josh Gardner (Howell, Mich.) took third with a time of 41.87. The men finished in seventh place with a total of 33 points. Grand Valley State was the overall winner with 219 points.

The women's 4x100 relay team, comprised of Elaina Meadows (Schoolcraft, Mich.), Claudia Coleman(Keller,Tx / Fossil Ridge (NU-Texas)), Valencia Lynch and Kara Young (Zephyrhills, Fla.) earned a fourth place finish with a time of 48.15. Dana Turner (Maywood, Ill. / Walther Lutheran) earned a seventh place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.4 meters, while Hunter Perry (Moran, Mich. / Rudyard) took eighth in the discus with a throw of 41.09 meters. The women finished 17th overall with eight points, while the Grand Valley State Lakers were the overall winners with 230.50 points.

Northwood track and field athletes will represent NU at multiple meets next weekend, including the Gina Relays, the Drake Relays and the Ernie Mousseau Track & Field Classic.
