Track and Field 2016-17 Indoor Season Recap

The Northwood University men's and women's indoor track teams recently completed one of the most successful seasons in program history.

The men's team finished the indoor season ranked 23rd as a team at the NCAA championships, marking the first top 25 finish in school history.

The men's team also improved in conference rankings as they moved up two spots to eighth overall at the indoor conference meet from their 10th place finish last year.

The women stayed in the same position at 11th in the league, but scored 26% more points than last year.

Between the men's and women's teams, five school records were broken, four on the men's side and one on the women's side. Along those same lines, there were eleven marks that accounted for second in school history with eight of them from the women's team and three from the men's team.

The Timberwolves track and field team also had eight individuals hit NCAA qualifying marks with two individuals making it to the NCAA championships. Paul Evans represented Northwood at the NCAA Championships in the men's weight throw and earned second team All-American honors. Rami Gharsalli represented Northwood in the men's 60 Meter Hurdles and finished second overall while earning first team All-American honors.

Individually speaking, the Timberwolves turned in quite the memorable season with the following individual accomplishments:

Kara Young, 7.62 (60m), ranked 27th in the country.

Jennifer McKenna, 4:58.33 (mile), ranked 48th in the country.

Rami Gharsalli, 7.81 (60m hurdles), ranked 3rd in the country, finished 2nd at the NCAA Championships.

Heaven Powell, 1.68m or 5'6" (high jump), ranked 27th in the country.

Elaina Meadows, 5.70m or 18'8.5" (long jump), ranked 41st in the country.

Alexander McIntosh, 16.06m or 52'8.25" (shot put), ranked 42nd in the country.

Paul Evans, 19.30m or 63'4" (weight throw), ranked 13th in the country, finished 12th at the NCAA Championships.

Carly D'Almeida, 16.89m or 55'5" (weight throw), ranked 44th in the country.

The outdoor track season opens up at NC State University for the Raleigh Relays on March 24th-25th.
