Track and Field Teams Continue Outdoor Season At Miami University Duals

RECAP:  The Northwood track and field teams compete at Miami University Duals in the second event of the 2017 outdoor season.

INSIDE THE EVENT

  • Northwood looked to continue the strong start to the outdoor season by following up a nice performance at the Raleigh Relays with another solid performance at the Miami University Duals.
  • On the women's side, Elaina Meadows captured first place in the women's long jump with her mark of 5.6 meters.
  • Riley Johnson competed in the javelin throw for the first time in her collegiate career and impressively registered the schools fourth best all-time mark with her toss of 28.90 meters. She then improved upon that mark with a new personal best of 29.47 meters, also good enough for fourth best in program history.
  • The women's 4x100 relay team made up of Drew Findlay, Madison Arnouts, Elaina Meadows, and Kara Young runs the second fastest time in school history and earns third place in the event with their time of 47.92.
  • Jennifer McKenna ran a time of 10:01.11 in the 3k (#2 in school history and 4 seconds off of the school record owned by Kylen Cieslak), placing 3rd overall in the meet. 
  • Elaina Meadows turned in a time of 12.49 in the 100 ranking her fifth all-time in school history in the event.
  • Right behind her for the Timberwolves was Claudia Coleman who registered a time 12.62 in the 100 which is also sixth in the history of the program.
  • Drew Findlay ran 25.89 in the 200 (#9 in school history).
  • In the women's 100 meter hurdles, Madison Arnouts ran a time of 15.80 to improve on her on her second best time in school history. 
  • In the women's high jump, Heaven Powell jumps 1.65m to move into 2nd all time in school history. 
  • Hannah Gearhart threw 40.44m in the women's hammer throw (#5 all time in school history) in her first time in the event. 
  • On the men's side, Grant Harris ran a 20 second PR (4:04.72)to place 8th in the 1500 (#10 all time in school history). He also came back in the 800 shortly after to claim 2nd place in 1:57.20 (just .3 seconds off of his PR).
  • Caleb Barker and Will Moench ran the #3 and #4 times in school history in the men's 3k outdoors. 
  • Kyle Vandersyde runs 15.82 in the 110 high hurdles to improve on his #8 all time performance in school history. 
  • Cody Patterson threw another PR by over a meter in the hammer throw (56.42) to improve on his #4 all time standing in school history.
  • Ben Quella threw 48.79m in the javelin throw to get 2nd overall and move up into 4th all time in school history.

"Our team competed well this weekend with many of us opening up for the season. There were some good things and things that we can improve on as a team but that's expected as we learn to compete better and continue to t rain in preparation for a successful outdoor season."
