D'Almeida, Evans, Powell Post NCAA Marks At Knight Open

EVENT: Knight Open – Marian University

LOCATION: St. Vincent Field - Indianapolis, Ind.

RECAP: Three NCAA provisional marks and multiple first place finishes highlights track and field at the Knight Open Friday (April 6).

MEN'S TRACK & FIELD

  • Paul Evans improved on his previous NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw. Evans finished second in the competition with a season best mark of 60.19 meters/197 feet-6 inches. He currently sits in sixth place on the NCAA Division II performance list at the time of this recap.
  • Dylan Rocha led wire to wire to win the 3000-meter steeplechase. His time of 9:52.15 moves him into fourth all-time in school history in his first go at the race.
  • In the javelin, Ben Quella won the event with the day's best distance of 46.40 meters/152 feet-2 inches.
  • Mason Phillips won the long jump on his first attempt of the competition at 7.21 meters/23 feet-8 inches.
  • The trio of Christopher Bent, Phillips, and Austin Hamlet swept the 100-meter dash. Bent edged Phillips for the win in 10.77 seconds, with Phillips finishing right behind in 10.78 and Hamlet running 10.93 respectively. Bent moves himself into seventh all-time in school history.
  • Three men in the 800-meter run finished in the top four of the event. Trestin Mancillas-Finnerty picked up the win in 1:59.21. Brian Patrick finished third in 1:59.97 and Michael Allen crossed the line in 2:01.95 for a fourth-place finish.
  • Hunter Berecz turned in a sixth-place finish in the shot put. His farthest throw of the competition was measured at 14.72 meters/48 feet-3.5 inches. Berecz also placed ninth in the finals of the discus with a toss of 36.13 meters/118 feet-6 inches.

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD

  • Heaven Powell turned in a new collegiate best in the high jump with an event-winning height of 1.70/5 feet-7 inches for her first NCAA provisional qualifying mark. She currently sits tied for eighth in NCAA Division II at the time of this recap. Powell also improved her mark as the number two performer in school history, with her previous collegiate best of 1.65 meters/5 feet-5 inches being set at the Miami Duals last outdoor season (April 1, 2017).
  • Carly D'Almeida set a new lifetime best and bettered her NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the hammer throw with a second-place throw of 52.89 meters/173 feet-6 inches. Her previous best was set at Cedarville last Saturday (March 31) and improved upon her mark as the number two performer all-time in NU history.
  • Madison Arnouts won the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line at 1:05.65.
  • On the runway, Dana Turner's third attempt of the competition (5.36 meters/17 feet-7 inches) earned her a second-place finish.
  • Riley Johnson claimed a fourth-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 29.47 meters/96 feet-8 inches.
  • Hailey Hartwick placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:09.48.
  • Jessica Marvin set a new collegiate best in the discus throw. Her throw of 37.26 meters/122 feet-3 inches placed her seventh overall in the competition, and now sits fifth all-time in school history.

Northwood will split its squad up to multiple meets next Friday and Saturday (March 13-14). The team will compete at the Bucknell Bison Classic in Lewisburg, Pa. and the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas.
