Track & Field Take Part In Pair Of Events
OVERVIEW – HILLSDALE GINA RELAYS/ASHLAND ALUMNI OPEN
LOCATION: Hillsdale, Mich./Ashland, Ohio
RECAP: Northwood track & field competes at a pair of events, taking part in the Hillsdale Gina Relays and the Ashland Alumni Open Thursday-Saturday (April 22-24).
HILLSDALE GINA RELAYS – MEN
- Freshman Carson Laney ran a 15:19.15 in the 5,000. That time is a 16-second personal-best and places him ninth in school history.
HILLSDALE GINA RELAYS – WOMEN
- Lainey Veenkant ran a 18:52.10 in the 5,000, which puts her ninth in school history in the event.
- Freshman Kameron Haag clocked a 19:00.80 in the event, a 25 second personal-best.
ASHLAND ALUMNI OPEN – MEN
- Zechariah Stickler broke one of the oldest records at Northwood with his performance in the invite shot put. He placed fourth overall (first among collegiate affiliated athletes) with a mark of 17.79. That breaks the 36-year old school record of Chris Rusher. Stickler's throw is also a provisional mark and places him 12th in Division II.
- Hunter Berecz also picked up an NCAA provisional mark with his toss of 16.36 meters.
- Nathan Powers put up another NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw (59.53 meters).
- Travis Schepers picked up the win in the open shot put with a personal-best toss of 16.84 meters. That mark places him fourth in school history and in the top-30 in Division II
- Freshman Will Nemecek is now seventh in school history after placing eighth in the shot put with a toss of 15.35 meters.
- Mason Phillips competed just in the 400 this weekend, clocking a 49.33 to place fourth overall. That time is good for ninth in school history.
ASHLAND ALUMNI OPEN – WOMEN
- Jessica Kursinsky picked up the win in the open discus throw with a toss of 41.00 meters. That toss was a three meter personal-best and puts her fifth in school history.
