Track & Field Competes At GLIAC Outdoor Championships

OVERVIEW – GLIAC CHAMPIONSHIP

LOCATION: Caledonia, Mich. (Davenport University)

RECAP: Northwood track & field took part in the GLIAC Championships Wednesday-Friday (May 5-7).

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN

  • Northwood placed fourth overall with 57 points.
  • Grand Valley State was the overall winner at 300.5 points, followed by Ashland (217.5) and Davenport (68.5)
  • Mason Phillips made his last GLIAC Championship a memorable one, picking up titles in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. He clocked a 10.68 in the 100 and a 21.21 in the 200. His time in the 200 was an NCAA provisional qualifier.
  • The Timberwolves had a big day in the shot put, bringing home 15 points. Zechariah Stickler finished second at 18.03 meters, while Hunter Berecz was fifth at 16.97. Travis Schepers was sixth with a mark of 16.78. All three hit the NCAA provisional mark.
  • Northwood 4X400 meter relay team of Andrew Wendler, Mason Phillips, Stephen Barker and Josiah Morse ran a 3:19.40, which was good for fourth place overall.
  • Stickler also placed fifth in the discus at 49.96 meters.
  • Stephen Barker and Josiah Morse went 5-6 in the 800 to give Northwood seven points. Barker ran  a personal-best time of 1:53.11 to move into eighth in school history. Morse was right behind at 1:53.56.
  • Nathan Powers earned fifth place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 60.63 meters. That is an NCAA provisional mark and ranks him No. 15 in Division II.
  • Michael Allen finished ninth in the steeplechase, clocking a personal-best time of 9:36.54. That time is good for third in school history.
  • Max Lerchen earned a point in the javelin, finishing eighth at 42.56 meters.

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Northwood finished 11th overall with 11 points.
  • GVSU was the women's winner as well at 183 points, followed by Saginaw Valley 183) Ashland (122.5)
  • Jessica Kursinsky came through with her best performance in the shot put to take home the GLIAC Championship. Her toss of 15.05 breaks her own school record in the event, is a NCAA provisional qualifier and ranks her eighth in Division II.
  • Kameron Haag picked up an eighth place finish in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 38:49.80. That puts her fourth in school history in the event.
  • Avery Stadt ran a 2:20.01 in the 800, which moves her into sixth into school history.

  • Northwood will compete at a variety of last-chance meets next week.
