Track & Field Shows Their Strengths While Competing at NC State and Cedarville

OVERVIEW 

MEET: Raleigh Relays / Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open

LOCATION: Raleigh, North Carolina / Cedarville, Ohio  

RECAP: The Timberwolves track & field teams participated in the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State (March 24-26) and the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open hosted by Cedarville (March 26) this weekend. Northwood had one athlete beat their school record while two athletes won gold. 

RALEIGH RELAYS – MEN

  • Zane Aldrich improved his already impressive school record in the 10,000m run. Aldrich improved his record time by 24 seconds to 29:36.01. 
  • In the 800m, Josh Jones placed 13th with a 1:52.14 finish that was good enough for sixth in school history. 
  • Dillan Haviland. (1:52.59) and Stephen Barker (1:52.60) finished subsequently at 24th and 25th in the 800m. Haviland's time was good enough for 10th best in NU history. 
  • In the 1500m race, the trio of Haviland, Jones, and Barker all competed for the Timberwolves. Haviland was the first Timberwolf to finish at 3:56.07, which is the seventh-best in school history. 
  • Josh Jones finished the 1500m at 3:57.78, while Barker finished right behind him at 3:58.15.

YELLOW JACKET COLLEGIATE OPEN – WOMEN

  • In the first hammer throw event of the season, Taky Ezell took gold with a toss of 50.02m. This is a personal best for Ezell, who improved her mark by 1.53m. Ezell's mark gave third place in school history.
  • Northwood's throwers took home two gold medals today. Jessica Kursinsky took the crown in the shot put with a 13.67m toss. 
  • Avery Stadt ran a 1:05.16 in the 400m race to take fifth. This was Stadt's first collegiate outdoor race in the 400. 
  • Alexis Kaanta earned five team points with a fourth-place finish in the 4.47m jump in the long jump. 
  • Katherine Wozniak (5:17.26) and Lainey Veenkant (5:17.81) finished 22nd and 24th, respectively, in the 1,500m run.
  • In the first 100m event of her career, Kaehla Manly finished eleventh at 14.42. 

YELLOW JACKET COLLEGIATE OPEN - MEN

  • Zechariah Stickler showed big for the Timberwolves in the shot put. Stickler's 16.87m throw cleared the NCAA provisional mark and earned him second place and eight team points.
  • Andrew Wendler placed fourth, scoring six points in the 3,000m steeplechase. Wendler finished at 10:13.00.
  • Jordan Taiwo finished eighth in the 100m dash at 11.89, giving the Timberwolves one team point. He also earned three team points with a seventh-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 4.07m.
  • Thomas Heslip earned the Timberwolves two additional team points with his seventh-place finish in the 200m race. Heslip's 23.38 time came in his first 200m outdoor collegiate event.
  • Benjamin Beaulieu's 18.79s mark in the 110m hurdles earned him an eighth-place finish and two team points.

  • Track & Field will utilize split squads on February 8, when some team members travel to the Golden Grizzlies Invitational at Oakland University and others travel to Indiana State for the Pacesetter Sports Invitational.
