Track & Field Competes In East Lansing For The Spartan Invitational

OVERVIEW

MEET: Spartan Invitational

LOCATION: East Lansing, Michigan

RECAP: The Timberwolves track & field teams were back in action this weekend for the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State, April 1-2. NU field events were a highlight for the Timberwolves as a majority of schools competing were regional and conference foes.

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN

  • Zechariah Stickler landed on the podium in the shot put. Stickler unleashed a 17.47m toss that cleared the NCAA provisional mark by .8 meters and was 10th best in DII this season.
  • Jon Kelm moved into the NU history books, placing third in the triple jump at 12.87m and 12th in the high jump at 1.81m. The jumps were the ninth farthest triple jump and the seventh-highest high jump.
  • 2022 GLIAC Indoor Weight Throw Champion, Nathan Powers finished sixth in the hammer throw as he cleared the NCAA provisional mark at 57.20m.
  • Max Lerchen was the lone competitor for Northwood in the javelin. His 41.71m throw got him an eighth place finish.
  • Jordan Taiwo placed sixth in the 110m hurdles at 17.03.
  • In his first meet since last May, Andrew Davis placed ninth in the 200m at 22.83 and 11th in the 100m at 11.23.
  • Will Nemecek had a 14.51m toss in the shot put that gave him a season-best and a ninth place finish.
  • David Kotliarker placed 12th at 51.15m in the hammer throw.

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Taky Ezell placed fourth while improving her record in the hammer throw on back-to-back weekends. Ezell's longest toss of 51.49m was 1.47m further than her previous mark. She totaled four throws that would have bested that mark as well. Ezell was first among DII athletes.
  • Molly Dickinson ended the 1500m on the podium with a 5:19.44 and a second place finish. Dickinson beat her previous best by nearly 20 seconds.
  • Alexis Kaanta competed for NU in the triple jump. Kaanta's furthest leap was 10.19m, good enough for fourth in school history. She also set a new personal best in the long jump at 4.71m
  • Emily Coulter placed tenth in the javelin with her 25.26m throw. Coulter also competed in the shot put, where she had a 9.9m throw.
  • Jessica Kursinsky finished with a 10.87m throw in the shot put to close the meet out for the Timberwolves.
