OVERVIEW

MEET: Golden Grizzlies Invitational and Pacesetter Invitational

LOCATION: Oakland, Michigan and Terre Haute, Indiana

RECAP: The Timberwolves track & field teams were in action this weekend utilizing split quads between the Golden Grizzlies Invitational and the Pacesetter Invitational (April 8-9).

PACESETTER INVITATIONAL – MEN

  • Nathan Powers continues to improve on all facets of his game. Powers finished second in the hammer and first amongst point scorers at 59.12m. His furthest throw of the young season was eighth amongst DII this season and cleared the NCAA provisional mark.
  • David Kotliarker placed seventh in the hammer at 52.48m, scoring an additional three team points.
  • Will Nemecek competed in both the shot put and discus competition. Nemecek earned a ninth place finish at 39.65m in his first discus event this season. He also placed sixth in the shot put at 14.86m.
  • Thomas Heslip placed fourth at 50.68 in the 400m to give the Timberwolves another five team points. Heslip also ran the 200m and finished at 23.44.
  • Freshman Jon Kelm improved his record in the long jump to 6.64m. Kelm also finished with a 12.57m jump in the triple jump.

PACESETTER INVITATIONAL – WOMEN

  • Records were made to be broken. For the third straight week, Taky Ezell beat her lifetime best mark in the hammer. Her 53.74 mark cleared the provisional mark and was first amongst team point scorers and was second overall. This mark officially moves her into second place in school history.
  • Along with Ezell, Jessica Kursinsky also competed in discus. Ezell placed ninth at 36.29m and Kursinsky took tenth at 35.58m.
  • Alexis Kaanta improved her personal best mark in the long jump at 4.71m.

GOLDEN GRIZZLIES INVITATIONAL – MEN

  • The Timberwolves went one-two-three in the 800m run behind Dillan Haviland, Josiah Morse, and Preston Earl. Haviland (first) and Josiah Morse (second) finished one and two in a photo finish at 1:55.81. Earl took third in the 800m at 1:58.24. This is Earl's first action in the outdoor 800m.  
  • Andrew Wendler took second in the steeplechase at 9:38.33. Wendler's 14-second personal record is the fourth-best in Northwood history.
  • Stephen Barker and Chase Clark were two of the Northwood representatives in the 1500m. Barker was the first Timberwolf to finish in fourth at 3:58.56. Clark finished just behind him in sixth at 3:59.65.
  • Carson Laney was also able to give Northwood another top-10 finisher, coming in 10th in the 1500m at 4:04.33.
  • Sebastian Tesch took seventh in the hammer at 43.62.
  • Jordan Taiwo gave Northwood a top-5 finish with a fourth place finish in the 110m hurdles at 16.66. This was a lifetime best for Taiwo
  • Max Lerchen placed second with a 43.82m toss in the javelin, his furthest of the season.

GOLDEN GRIZZLIES INVITATIONAL – WOMEN

  • Emily Coulter finished seventh in the javelin at 27.23m. Coulter also competed in the shot put and ended with a 9.30m toss.
  • Katherine Wozniak moved into eighth place in NU history with an 18:33.62 5k. This was Wozniak's first 5k on an outdoor track.
  • Avery Stadt took ninth at 2:24.76 in the 800m.
  • Debra Wallace took fourth in the prelims in the 100m at 12.88 qualifying times. Wallace was unable to compete in the finals.

 

UP NEXT

Track & Field will utilize split squads on April 14, when some members travel to the Bucknell for the Bison Open and others travel to Tiffin University.
