Northwood Track & Field Has Multiple Athletes Move into The Northwood History Books

OVERVIEW

MEET: Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic and Tiffin Track Carnival

LOCATION: Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and Tiffin, Ohio

RECAP: The Timberwolves track & field teams were in action this weekend utilizing split quads between the Bison Outdoor Classic and the Tiffin Track Carnival (April 14-16).

BISON OUTDOOR CLASSIC – MEN

  • Dillan Haviland set a new school record in the 3k at 8:27.75. His time was nearly 14 seconds faster than the previous mark set in 2019. This is Haviland's second school record. He also holds the record in the indoor mile at 4:06.14.
  • Josh Jones and Stephen Barker ran the 800m. Jones finished eighth improving his sixth place in school history to a 1:51.91 mark. Barker placed 12th at 1:52.50.
  • Northwood had five runners compete in the 1500m events and all created new lifetime best marks. These include Dillan Haviland, Josiah morse, Josh Jones, Stephen Barker, and Preston Earl.
  • In the 1500m invite; Dillan Haviland placed 13th at 3:49.41, Stephen Barker placed 41st at 3:53.91, Josh Jones placed 45th at 3:54.53, and Preston Earl took 54th at 3:55.70.
  • Josiah morse took gold in the 1500m unseeded event at 3:54.13.
  • Haviland moves into second place in school history with that mark and was .17 seconds off the school record. Barker moves into fourth, Morse moves into fifth, Jones moves into seventh, and Earl moved into ninth in NU history.
  • Zane Aldrich came in 11th in the 5k at 14:17.13. Aldrich moves into the top-20 of the DII and now has two top-20 times in both the 5k and 10k races this season.
  • In the 3000m steeplechase, Andrew Wendler earned a 14th place finish at 9:26.92 and a 12-second personal record improvement. Wendler now sits in third in school history.

BISON OUTDOOR CLASSIC – WOMEN

  • Avery Stadt was the lone competitor for the women's track & field team, placing 78th in 1500m unseeded at 5:02.86. Her 12-second personal best was the best by any Northwood runner in the event this season. Stadt also ran the 800m, finishing at 2:22.03.

TIFFIN TRACK CARNIVAL – MEN

  • Zechariah Stickler cleared the provisional mark in discus. His 52.60m throw placed second and is 11th best in DII this season.
  • Nathan Powers moved in second place in Northwood history in the hammer with a .45m improvement. His final throw of the event traveled 61.08m, clearing the provisional mark and pushing him up to ninth-best in DII this season.
  • Will Nemecek came in fifth in the shot put with a 15.47m mark. Nemecek also set a personal at 40.72m in discus.
  • Sebastian Tesch improved his best mark in the discus by 1.23m with his 40.90m toss.

TIFFIN TRACK CARNIVAL – WOMEN

  • Taky Ezell had two top-10 finishes this weekend in both discus and hammer throw. Ezell placed second in the hammer with a lifetime best of 54.90m, a 1.16m improvement from her previous. Ezell's 40.64m discus toss was also a personal record by 3.8m.
  • Jessica Kursinsky placed sixth in the shot put at 13.43m.  Kursinsky also competed in discus, finishing with a 36.78m toss.
