Northwood Track & Field Competes in Rochester At The Elaine Leigh Invite

OVERVIEW

MEET: Elaine Leigh Invitational

LOCATION: Rochester, Michigan – Oakland University

RECAP: The Timberwolves' track & field teams were in action this weekend competing at the Elaine Leigh Invitational hosted by Oakland University (April 22-23).

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN

  • Zechariah Stickler nearly matched his school record in the shot put landing a single centimeter shorter than his school record. His 18.26m throw placed him at the top of the podium. Stickler now sits in seventh in DII this season.
  • David Kotliarker and Dylan Powers both landed on the podium for the hammer. Kotliarker took second at 55.20m and D. Powers took third at 54.37m.
  • Powers' throw was a lifetime best by .71m and he moved into seventh place in school history.
  • Jon Kelm placed seventh in both the triple and long jump. He leaped 6.68m during the long jump and 12.87m in the triple jump to set a new lifetime best.
  • Brandon Boyd took fifth in the 5k with a 14:52.37 finish, good enough for fourth in school history.
  • Also, in the 5k, Chase Clark ran his first 5k event at 15:26.81, and Carson Laney placed 13th at 15:09.33 which was the ninth-best in program history.
  • Will Nemecek's 15.90m toss in the shot gave him a fifth place finish. Nemecek also placed fourth in discus at 43.10m, which was a personal best by 2.38m.
  • Thomas Heslip took sixth at 50.46 in the 400m.
  • Andrew Davis took 10th in the 100m sprint at 10.88.
  • Davis (22.66) and Heslip (22.78) also placed 11th and 12th respectfully in the 200m.
  • In the 3000m steeple, Logan Lundgren placed 10th at 10:10.31, which is a personal best by nearly 47 seconds.

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • In the javelin, Hailey Granata and Emily Coulter recorded top-10 finishes. Granata placed sixth at 29.95m and Coulter took eighth at 29.51m.
  • Granata's javelin throw was a personal record by nearly 10m as she earned sixth.
  • Jessica Kursinsky took third in shot put with a 13.69m toss. 13.69m was a season-best for Jessica.
  • A 48.69m throw in the hammer earned Taky Ezell a sixth-place finish. Ezell took third in discus at 40.98m.
  • Katherine Wozniak's 5:00.45 finish in the 1500m placed her 15th overall.
  • Also, in the 1500m, Lainey Veenkant (5:04.36) and Sarah Zehr (5:08.91) finished just behind Wozniak in 18th and 22nd.
  • Alexis Kaanta moves into fourth place in NU history for the triple jump with her 10.25m leap taking eighth. Kaanta also jumped 4.78m in the long jump to take 14th.
  • Isabel Anderson placed ninth clearing 1.50m in the high jump.

UP NEXT

Track & Field is set to utilize split squads next week, April 29-30, as some athletes will travel to Hillsdale and others to Ashland. Hillsdale hosts the Gina Relays and Ashland will have the Ashland Alumni Open.
