Track & Field Travels The Midwest To Compete At Walsh, Ashland, And Davenport

OVERVIEW

MEET: Walsh Tune-Up, Ashland Alumni Open, and Davenport Invitational

LOCATION: North Canton, Ohio – Walsh University / Ashland, Ohio – Ashland University / Caledonia, Mich. – Davenport University

RECAP: The Timberwolves' track & field teams competed in three meets this weekend with the Northwood throws team traveling to Walsh (April 28) and Ashland (April 29-30) and runners competing at Davenport (April 29-30).

WALSH TUNE-UP – MEN

  • Zechariah Stickler nearly matched his school record for the second straight week in the shot, landing a single centimeter shorter than his school record. His 18.26m throw placed him at the top of the podium again and sits ninth in DII this season.  Stickler would take fourth in the discus as well with a 45.23m throw.
  • Also in the shot, Will Nemecek's 15.48m throw land him in fourth. Nemecek later went on to create a new personal best in the discus at 43.90m to take fifth.  
  • Nathan Powers was first among team scoring athletes in the hammer, placing second with a 60.41m toss. Powers' throw cleared the NCAA provisional mark.
  • Nathan's brother, Dylan Powers took sixth in the hammer at 55.94m personal best throw by over 1.5m. Powers would later beat that personal best at the Ashland Alumni Open.
  • David Kotliarker placed fourth at 56.64m in the hammer. Both Kotliarker and Dylan Powers were within one meter of the NCAA provisional mark.

WALSH TUNE-UP – WOMEN

  • Taky Ezell competed in both discus and hammer, landing on the podium in the hammer. Ezell made throws of 51.62m in the hammer throw and 38.82m in the discus competition.
  • Jessica Kursinsky took fifth in the shot at 12.87m.
  • Emily Coulter placed 10th with a 9.45m throw during the shot put.

DAVENPORT INVITATIONAL – MEN

  • Northwood's 4x400 team took the top spot at 3:29.89. NU consisted of Thomas Heslip, Preston Earl, and Andrew Wendler.
  • The Northwood 800m crew of Josh Jones, Stephen Barker, Dillan Haviland, and Josiah Morse took center stage. Barker (1:51.58) was the best finisher, taking second. Teammates Morse (1:52.24), Jones (1:52.44), and Haviland (1:55.66) would follow in fifth, sixth, and eleventh.
  • Logan Lundgren pushed himself to a new personal best in the 3000m steeplechase. Lundgren took eighth at 10:02.58.
  • Clark (4:01.19), Earl (4:01.52), and Wendler (4:10.10) took second, fourth, and eighth in the 1500m.
  • Zane Aldrich took fourth in the 5k at 14:17.
  • Andrew Davis landed on the podium of the 200m. He took second, running a 22.87 time.
  • Davis and teammates Thomas Heslip, Xzavia Price, and Jordan Taiwo took second together in the 4x100m to place them as the third-best time in the GLIAC this season.
  • Price also took second in the long jump, leaping 6.72m. Price was one centimeter out of first place.
  • Jon Kelm set a personal best by one centimeter in the high jump to improve his height to 1.82m to take fourth.

DAVENPORT INVITATIONAL – WOMEN

  • Avery Stadt set a new lifetime best in the 800m at 2:16.67, nearly four seconds better than her previous outdoor mark. She moves into fourth place in school history with that mark.
  • Isabel Anderson took eighth with her 1.47m high jump.
  • Alexis Kaanta finished sixth in the long jump. Kaanta leaped 4.91m.

ASHLAND ALUMNI OPEN – MEN

  • After nearly breaking his school record at Walsh, his second opportunity of the weekend allowed him to break it at Ashland with a bomb at 18.53m in the shot put to landing first among collegiate athletes. Stickler's toss was good enough for sixth-best in DII this season and clears the NCAA mark.
  • Dylan Powers (56.16m) and David Kotliarker (54.76m) would finish one and two in the hammer. Dylan's pr was .70m from the NCAA mark.
  • Nathan Powers placed eighth in the hammer throw elite with a 60.08m toss.

ASHLAND ALUMNI OPEN – WOMEN

  • Emily Coulter set a new personal best at 30.50m in the javelin and put herself in fifth place in school history.
  • Taky Ezell took sixth in the hammer throw elite competition at 54.80m. Ezell finished second among Division II athletes.
  • Jessica Kursinsky took sixth in the discus with a 38.40m toss. Kursisnsky also compete in the shot put elite event and tossed it 13.57m.

The postseason will begin next weekend as Northwood goes to Allendale for the GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 4-6).
