Track & Field Travels To Saginaw To Compete At SVSU Classic

OVERVIEW 

MEET: SVSU CLASSIC

LOCATION: UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – SAGINAW VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY

RECAP: Northwood track & field took a trip to Saginaw to compete in the SVSU Classic Friday (January 13).

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN

  • Daniel Lane placed eighth during the long jump with his 6.04m mark. Lane improved his personal record (PR) by 81cm.
  • Multis athlete Jordan Taiwo placed just behind Lane in 14th with his 5.94m leap.
  • Blake Vier set and reset his PR by running an 8.67, 60m hurdle during prelims followed by a sixth place finish at 8.64 during the finals.
  • Nicholas Ball placed 10th in the shot with a 13.55m toss.
  • David Kotliarker led the Timberwolves in the weight throw hitting 16.24m. His teammates Chris Whitehead (13.05m) and Bryce Middleton (11.51m) also competed for the Timberwolves.
  • Northwood's best 4x400m relay team consisted of Andrew Finley, Logan Hollingsworth, Andrew Davis, and Lane. They would earn the Timberwolves eighth place in 3:40.02.

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Gabby Jones placed top-5 in the 400m dash, finishing in 1:02.33 and taking fifth. Jones also ran a 10.03-second 60m hurdle in heat two of the prelims.
  • Jones' teammates Molly Kitson (1:04.85 – 10th), Jenna Gaul (1:06.35 – 13th), and Hailey Granata (1:06.99 – 14th) would all also set new PRs to aid the Timberwolves.
  • Alexis Kaanta's 4.52m leap gave her a ninth-place finish during the long jump. Kaanta also placed sixth in the triple jump at 9.35m
  • Katherine Haupt (5:25.22) and Taylor Hopkins (5:27.68) placed 10th and 12th respectively during the mile race.
  • Northwood's 4x400m relay team consisted of Jones, Haupt, Hopkins, and Granata. The quartet would lead the Timberwolves to a podium finish in 4:16.59 to take third.
  • Emily Coulter's 11.98m weight throw was a new PR and earned her an 11th-place finish.
  • Shannon McMenamin hit 9.61m in the shot put.

  • Northwood track & field travels to Ann Arbor tomorrow as more athletes will compete at the Michigan Invitational Saturday (January 14).
