Track & Field Continues To Win As Teams Compete at GVSU

OVERVIEW 

MEET: SNOWDOWN SHOWDOWN

LOCATION: ALLENDALE, MICH. – GRAND VALLEY STATE

RECAP: Northwood track & field had won both men's and women's 800m races as teams competed at the Snowdown Showdown Friday at GVSU.

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN 

  • Josh Jones took gold in the 800m as he improved his personal record (PR) by five-hundredths of a second. His 1:50.78 mark also cleared the NCAA mark and is the sixth-best time in DII this season.
  • Jones' teammates Preston Earl (1:54.70 – third) and Elliot Lipe (1:55.64 – fourth) also placed top five during the 800m race.
  • Sebastian Tesch took home the gold in the men's weight throw as he set a new PR. His 19.19m throw eclipsed the 19-meter mark for the first time in his career. He now holds the 13th-best throw in DII this season.
  • Nathan Powers also eclipsed the NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw. He placed just behind Tesch with a 19.02m throw as Northwood would finish one-two in the men's weight throw.
  • In Zechariah Stickler's return, the senior placed second, clearing the provisional mark and earning the 11th-best throw in DII this season at 17.42m.
  • Travis Schepers (16.63m – third) and Will Nemecek (16.53m – fourth) also finished in the top four of the men's shot put. Schepers toss is now 28th best in DII this season.
  • Northwood's 4x400m relay team included Earl, Lipe, Jones, and freshman Logan Hollingsworth. The team would finish first in 3:31.38.

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Katherine Haupt won the women's 800m race. Haupt finished at 2:18.30, setting a new PR and a team-best this indoor season.
  • Taylor Hopkins also ran in the 800m. Hopkins took fifth in 2:25.20.
  • Senior Lillian Albaugh competed in both the weight throw (11.56m) and shot put (13.36m). She placed third in the shot put and 12th in the weight throw.
  • Emily Coulter competed for the Timberwolves in the weight throw, hitting 11.40m and taking 14th.
  • Ture freshman Vivian Williams (1:03.56 – seventh), Molly Kitson (1:03.63 – eighth), and other freshmen, Jenna Gaul (1:07.37 – ninth) competed for the Timberwolves in the 400m race.
  • Gaul also finished tenth during the 60m hurdles, finishing in 10.03.
  • Other freshmen, Riley Hacker (5:49.79 – ninth) and Hattie Veenkant (5:52.48 – tenth) placed top 10 during the women's mile.
  • A team of Haupt, Hopkins, Hacker, and Williams led the Timberwolves to a win in the 4x400m relay. The team finished at 4:19.02.
