Track & Field Collects Two G-MAC Indoor Championships At Ashland

OVERVIEW 

MEET: G-MAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

LOCATION: ASHLAND, OHIO – ASHLAND 

RECAP: Northwood's track & field teams competed at the G-MAC Championships Friday and Saturday (February 24-25) in Ashland, Ohio. Dillan Haviland and Zechariah Stickler earned NU's two G-MAC Championships during the meet.

In the teams' races, Findlay won both the men's (182 points) and women's (161.50 points) team titles. Northwood's men's team placed fifth with 70 points while the women's team ended tied for tenth with two points.

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN 

  • Haviland became Northwood's first-ever individual G-MAC Champion. Haviland set the Northwood mile record at 4:03.75 in the process of winning the event and earning 10 team points for the Wolves. He still holds the 14th-best time in DII this season and has earned All-Conference recognition.
  • Stickler became a conference champion in the shot put with a toss of 17.28m. Stick earned All-Conference honors while clearing the NCAA mark. 
  • Josh Jones took silver in the 800m. Jones finished in 1:51.05, clearing the NCAA provisional mark and earning eight team points. Jones earned All-Conference honors with his finish.
  • During the distance medley relay, Preston EarlThomas HeslipJones, and Haviland earned eight points for the Blue and White by placing second in 9:50.02. The team earned All-Conference honors for placing in the top three clearing the NCAA provisional mark.
  • Nathan Powers (20.03m) took home a four-place finish in the weight throw earning five team points in the process. 
  • Zane Aldrich (14:33.86) ran the 5K for the Timberwolves, taking sixth and earning three team points. Aldrich also took fifth in the 3K, giving Northwood four team points in 8:21.64 in the process.
  • Brandon Boyd (8:30.84) also earned a point for the Wolves, placing eighth in the 3K.
  • Jon Kelm placed fifth in the long jump, hitting just short of his record (PR) at 7.18m. Kelm later earned another point, placing eighth at 13.16m during the triple jump.
  • Xzavia Price gave NU an extra point, placing eighth in the long jump at 6.95m.
  • Blake Vier sits third all-time on NU's 60m hurdle list after running a lifetime best of 8.36. Vier moved on to the 60m hurdle finals as the five-seed. He placed fourth in the finals, running 8.39 and earning 5 team points.
  • Vier's teammate Matheu Morrison also ran a PR (8.51) during the 60m hurdle preliminaries. Morrison qualified for the finals as the eighth seed and is now tied for seventh in NU history. He would finish seventh in the finals at 8.64, earning two team points.
  • Will Nemecek (16.52m) and Travis Schepers (16.45m) placed seventh and eighth in the shot put as well to give the Timberwolves three extra team points.
  • The 4x400 team of Andrew Davis, Earl, Heslip, and Jones earned three points for NU by placing sixth in 3:21.10.
  • Earl finished just eight-hundredths of a second of his mile record as he placed seventh, earning two points at 4:12.19. 

 

 INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Lillian Albaugh placed eighth in the shot put with a 13.31m throw, earning NU a team point.
  • The 4x400 team of Gabby JonesMolly KitsonTaylor Hopkins, and Katherine Haupt finished in 4:07.86, taking eighth and earning a team point.
  • Freshman Hopkins set a PR of 5:20.04 during the mile. She moved in ninth on the NU all-time list.
  • Alexis Kaanta set a new PR of 4.62m in the long jump. Kaanta now sits 10th on the all-time NU long jump list. Kaanta also cleared 10.51m during the triple jump.
  • Kameron Haag ran an 18-second PR in the 5K, placing 14th at 18:20.50. Haag later ran a 10:48.51.
  • Haupt represented Northwood in the 800m, finishing in 2:19.91.
  • Gabby Jones (9.61) and Jenna Gaul (9.66) ran PRs during the 60m hurdle prelims to move into third and fourth on Northwood's top-10 list.

  • Northwood track & field will see who has qualified for the NCAA Championships in the upcoming week. The NCAA Championships are March 10-11 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
