OVERVIEW 

MEET: Golden Grizzly Invitational

LOCATION: Oakland University – Rochester, Mich.

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's track & field competed at the Golden Grizzly Invitational Saturday (April 8). 

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN

  • The price was right in the 100m dash. Xzavia Price, that is, won the 100m dash, finishing at 10.90. Price was .7 seconds off his lifetime best. 
  • In the hammer throw, Sebastian Tesch earned the 20th-best throw in DII this year while also setting a new PR of 57.63m. Tesch is now sixth on the all-time hammer throw list at NU.
  • David Kotliarker also finished in the top five of the hammer, placing fifth at 54.28m. 
  • In the shot put, Will Nemecek set a new personal record (PR) at 16.73m, clearing the NCAA provisional mark of 16.57m. His toss is now 25th-best in DII this season. His teammate Travis Schepers finished also fifth with a toss of 16.12m.
  • Dillan Haviland (1:52.13) and Josh Jones (1:52.37) ran just off the NCAA mark (1:51.48), taking third and fifth in the 800m. 
  • The typical jumper, John Kelm, ran the 200m race. Kelm placed 15th with a time of 22.96; the best time by a Timberwolf this season. Kelm also competed in the long jump clearing 6.46. His teammates, Matheu Morrison (23.54 – PR) and Blake Vier (23.59) also ran the 200m, finishing 26th and 28th.
  • Thomas Heslip set a new PR in the 400m at 50.49, placing 11th. His PR was nearly one second better than his previous time.
  • Heslip, Andrew Davis, Jones, and Haviland took third in the 4x400m relay at 3:26.09

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Emily Coulter led the women's team; she competed in the javelin placing third with her PR throw of 36.48m. 
  • Lillian Albaugh moved herself up a spot to ninth on the all-time discus list at NU with a toss of 35.98. She placed 11th as she earned herself a new PR.
  • Jenna Gaul competed in both the 100m and 100m hurdles prelims. Gaul timed out at 13.50 during the 100m, while running 17.05 during the 110m hurdles.
  • Molly Kitson (1:02.42) and Vivian Williams (1:03.67). Kitson's PR earned herself a 15th place finish as Williams ran the first outdoor 400m race of her career, taking 16th.
  • Teammates Gabby Jones (1:08.85), Hailey Granata (1:10.82), and Gaul (1:12.49) all competed in the 400m hurdles. The Timberwolves placed 12th, 17th, and 23rd respectively.
  • A team of Kitson, Jones, Granata, and Williams competed for the Timberwolves in the 4x100m relay. The team placed 12th at 51.76.
  • Jones, Kitson, Williams, and Brooke Berney competed in the 4xx400m relay, taking 7th at 4:20.55.

UP NEXT

  • Northwood track & field is set to travel to Bucknell, Siena Heights, and Indiana State, April 13-15, as they utilize split squads.
