Bio

Garret Lacy joined the Northwood coaching staff in the fall of 2022 and began his tenure as Assistant Coach for both the men's and women's cross country and track & field programs. He was named Head Coach of the men’s and women’s cross country programs in September of 2023.

In Lacy’s first year with the program, the 2022 men’s cross country squad was the first team to qualify for the NCAA DII Cross Country Championships, placing 25th at the event. Also, as assistant for the women’s team, Northwood had their highest conference finish since 2008, taking sixth at the 2022 Great Midwest Cross Country Championships.

Lacy has spent the last three years at Grand Rapids Community College where he was Head Coach of the men's cross country program. He spent his first two years there as an assistant, building the team from where it was in 2019 when there were just three members. After focusing heavily on recruiting, he aided in building the roster to 16 men by the 2021 season.

As head coach, Lacy led the Raiders to two top-10 national finishes among teams at the NJCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships. The Raiders finished seventh nationally in 2021, following a ninth-place finish, in 2020, while Lacy was an assistant. He also led them to their first Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) conference team championship in 2021.

During his time at GRCC, Lacy coached three NJCAA D2 All-Americans, two NJCAA D2 Region-12 Runners of the Year, and two individual conference champions.

Lacy, a graduate of Alma College (Mich.), was a four-time Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) all-conference selection in cross country and 2010 MIAA Conference Champion in the 10,000m. He was a member of the 2012 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region All-Regional team and is second all-time in school history in cross country 8k (25:01) and the outdoor track 10k (31:29).

Garrett still holds the Alma College record for the outdoor 3,000m at 8:50.
