Cross Country Teams Open Season At Eastern Mich. 5k Celebration

YPSILANTI, MICH. – The Northwood Timberwolves cross country teams competed at the Eastern Michigan University Celebration 5k at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Ypsilanti, Mich. Saturday morning (September 5).

No team scoring was taken at the event, which saw and the women from Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Wayne State, among others race a 5K course.

The women's team was led by senior Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie). She finished 49th overall with a time of 19:53.0 to start the season. Close behind was Jennifer Mckenna (Orchard Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) clocking 20:01.5 for 52nd place. Emily Murdoch (Dewitt, Mich.). ran a 20:57.1 for a 70th place finish, while senior Chloe Theil clocked 21:43.8. Also running for the Timberwolves was sophomore Jacqueline Reneaud (Goodrich, Mich.). A total of 116 runners took part in the women's collegiate race.

On the men's side, senior Sammy Tanui (Eldoret, Kenya) was NU's top finisher after coming off a string of injuries. He finished 33rd overall with a time of 16:01.2. Junior Will Moench (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) clocked a 16:27.8 for 61st place, while Michael Todd (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant) ran 16:41.1 and freshman Josh Plischke finished at 16:52.4. Also representing NU were Nick Kaufmann (Hemlock, Mich.), junior Tyler Harris and freshman Christian DeBlois. There were 186 competitors in the men's collegiate event.

NU will compete in the LSSU Invite in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. next Saturday (September 12).
