Cross Country Teams Traveled To Michigan State University

EAST LANSING, MICH. – The Northwood University cross country teams traveled to Michigan State University for the 2015 Auto Owners Cross Country Spartan Invitational, sponsored by Playmakers.

The event took place at Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. No team score was taken. Other teams that participated include Michigan State, University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Michigan Tech, Saginaw Valley State, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Hillsdale, Malone, Wayne State, among others.

Leading the way for the women was Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) with a 85th place finish. Her time of 24:02 is also good for 14th best in school history. Sophomore Emily Murdoch (Dewitt, Mich. / Dewitt) finished 179th at 26:08, while senior Chloe Theil (Plainwell, Mich. / Plainwell) finished at 26:18 for 190th place. Also competing for NU was Julie Cherwinski (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage). A total of 318 runners took part in the women's collegiate race.

On the men's side, senior Sammy Tanui (Eldoret, Kenya) led the way for Northwood with a time of 27:17 and 107th place finish. Josh Plishke and Will Moench (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) earned 135th and 148th with the times of 27:35 and 27:44, respectively. Also competing for the Timberwolves were Matthew Dippel (Kentwood, Mich. / Kentwood), Tyler Jenson (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie), Tyler HarrisCaleb Barker, Christian Deblois and Nathan Yax (Freeland, Mich. / Freeland). A total of 386 runners took part in the men's collegiate race.

NU will host the Annual Northwood Invite on Saturday (Oct. 10). The meet will take place at Currie Golf Course and is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. For more information on the NU Invite: CLICK HERE.
