Men's Cross Country Makes History As No. 28 Ranked team

Full USTFCCCA Rankings

NEW ORLEANS, LA. - The Northwood men's cross country team landed at No. 28 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Men's Cross Country rankings. The USTFCCCA rankings were released Wednesday (Oct. 5) with No. 28 Northwood and No. 12 Walsh being the only Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) teams appearing on the list.

This is the first time in program history that Northwood has appeared in USTFCCCA national rankings. The 28th-ranked team is also seventh in the Midwest region ahead of GMAC foes No. 8 Findlay, No. 9 Cedarville, and regional foe No. 10 Saginaw Valley State.

A strong team effort in the Gold section at the Live in Lou Classic (LLC) (Oct.1) behind Dillan Haviland's 24th-place finish pushed the Timberwolves up three spots in this week's regional rankings.

During their LLC race, Northwood's Haviland broke his school record in the 8K for the second straight meet finishing in 24:04.0.

As a team, Northwood outran eight Division I schools including Georgia, Eastern Kentucky, and Indiana State while finishing two points behind Clemson and placing higher than GMAC competitors Findlay (25th) and Malone (29th).

Eight of Northwood's nine runners set new personal bests at the LLC, including sophomore Preston Earl who sits at No. 2 in Northwood's record books after his 28:42.0 finish.

Northwood's cross-country teams will head to the Warrior Challenge hosted by Wayne State on Saturday, October 22. The team looks to continue their surge before they host the Northwood Tune-Up on Saturday, October 29.
