Women's Cross Country Sets Numerous Personal Records As Teams Compete At Midwest Regional

OVERVIEW – NCAA DII MIDWEST CROSS COUNTRY REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

LOCATION: Angel Mound Historic Site – Evansville, Ind.

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's cross country traveled to Evansville, Ind. Saturday (November 4) for the NCAA DII Midwest regional race. The men would finish 13th overall while the women took 16th.

INSIDE THE WOMEN'S RACE (6,000 METERS)

  • NU's women placed 16th with 420 points. The race included 223 athletes from all 32 Midwest regional teams. Grand Valley St. won the race with 28 points while Cedarville the G-MAC champions, Cedarville, took second with 87 and Lewis placed third with 92 points.
  • Sophomore Taylor Hopkins paced the Timberwolves. She set another personal record (PR) for the second straight race. Her 21:41.0 finish was a massive 1:31 improvement and was just 3 seconds off the program record (Kylen Cieslak – 2008).
  • All seven of Northwood's racers finished with new PRs with all seven moving up or into the Northwood top-25 performers list. This includes Sarah Zehr (22:04.3) and Katherine Haupt (22:30.5) moving into a tie for third third and eighth respectively.
  • Northwood average time was 22:27 with a total time of 1:52.15.
  • 16th place is the highest finish for the Timberwolves since 2013. A year in which they placed 14th.

NORTHWOOD RESULTS:

  • Hopkins: 43rd – 21:41.0 PR – Second in NU History
  • Zehr: 67th - 22:04.3 PR – Tied for third in NU History
  • Haupt: 87th - 22:30.5 PR – Eighth in NU History
  • Rachael Sierakowski: 114th – 22:58.3 PR – t-12th in NU History
  • Ariel Warner: 116th – 23:01.2 PR – 15th in NU History
  • Riley Hacker: 133rd – 23:23.2 PR – t-18th in NU History
  • Molly Dickinson: 155th – 23:56.0 – 23rd in NU History

INSIDE THE MEN'S RACE (10,000 METERS)

  • NU's men placed 13th with 347 points. The race included 214 athletes from all 32 Midwest regional men's teams. Grand Valley St. took the crown with 48 points while Lewis placed second with 104 and Saginaw Valley St took third with 112 points.
  • Joseph Shaya was the Timberwolves' best finisher, taking 59th in 32:22.4. He set a new PR at 32.22.4 to move into 12th all-time on Northwood top 25 performers list.
  • The Timberwolves had two racers earn PRs as both moved onto the top-25 performers list.

  • Northwood men's and women's cross country await team and individual births to the NCAA DII Cross Country Championships. NCAA Championship announcements, including 34 teams from each side and 24 at-large individuals, will be announced on Monday (November 6).
