Softball Earns Two Wins In Florida

The Northwood University softball team picked up two wins in Florida Monday afternoon (March 11). The Timberwolves downed Mercy 8-2 before defeating Alderson-Broaddus 6-3.

Northwood is now 6-4 overall on the season. Both games took place at the NTC Softball Complex in Clermont, Fla.

NORTHWOOD 8, MERCY 2

Northwood plated the first run of the game on a double from Lindsay Obremski (DuBois, Pa./Dubois Area) in the top of the first. The Timberwolves increased their lead in the fourth with an RBI single by Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc. / Mary D. Bradford). NU earned two quick runs in the fifth on back-to-back homers from Obremski and Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini). Hayley D'Avilar (Georgetown, ON / Christ the King) recorded a pair of RBI's on a triple in the top of the sixth. D'Avilar then crossed the plate on a single up the middle from Obremski to put Northwood ahead 7-0. Brittany Merner (Solon, Ohio / Solon) recorded the final RBI for the Timberwolves before the Mavericks plated two in the bottom of the seventh.

D'Avilar finished the game 3-3 with a pair of RBIs. Obremski had three hits and three RBIs, while Stacey Klonowski (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) had two hits and two runs scored. Kayla Gust (Port Hope, Mich.) gave up three hits in 4.1 innings to earn her first win of the season.

NORTHWOOD 6, ALDERSON-BROADDUS 3

Klonowski was the star in the second game of the day for Northwood. She opened the scoring in the first inning with a three-run homer to put the Timberwolves up 3-0 after one inning. Klonowski then made it 4-0 with an RBI single in the third inning. After the Battlers made the score 4-2 in the top of the fourth, Northwood extended their lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the inning. After scoring a run on an error, Klonowski registered her fifth RBI of the game on a single that plated Obremski.

For the game, Klonowski finished 3-3 with a home run and five RBIs. Obremski scored two runs, while Ashley Lynn (Garden City, Mich.) had two hits.

Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) picked up her third win of the season in the game, striking out five while allowing zero earned runs in seven innings of work.

NU will be back in action against Urbana Tuesday (March 11) at 1 p.m. followed by Assumption at 3 p.m.
