Softball Opens Season With 4-0 Loss To Southern Indiana

MINNEOLA, Fla. – The Northwood University softball team opened its 2015 season with a 4-0 loss to Southern Indiana Friday afternoon (March 6).

The game was the opener for the Timberwolves on their annual spring break trip to Florida. USI improves to 7-0 on the year with the win.

All of the runs in the game came in the bottom of the second inning. The Screaming Eagles put together four runs on five hits, keyed by a pair of two-run singles.  Northwood's main scoring threat of the game came at the very start of the contest, as Ashley Lynn (Garden City, Mich.) and Hayley D'Avilar (Georgetown, Ont./Christ the King Catholic Secondary) opened the game with a single and a double to put runners at second and third with nobody out.  But two pop outs and a line out ended the threat.  NU managed just two hits the rest of the way and one hit over the final five innings.

USI out-hit Northwood 11-4 for the game.  Both teams had one walk and did not commit an error

Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) picked up the loss in the circle. After allowing four runs in the second, she held the Screaming Eagles off the board over the next three innings. Vanessa Ewing (Maybee, Mich./Dundee) came in to pitch the final inning.

Northwood will play a pair of games Saturday night (March 7). NU will face Northern State at 5 p.m. followed by Shippensburg at 7 p.m.
