Softball Loses Doubleheader In Florida

CLERMONT, FLA. - The Northwood University softball team drops a pair of games Sunday afternoon (March 8) at the 2015 National Training Center Spring Games. The Timberwolves dropped a 4-2 game to St. Cloud State before falling to Indianapolis 5-3 as NU is now 0-5 in the early season.

St. Cloud State improved to 7-7 overall while Indianapolis is now 4-3 on the year.

The Timberwolves scored in the bottom of the first inning after Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) earned three outs against three batters to start the game. With bases loaded Lyndsey Look (Pinconning, Mich. / Pinconning) was hit by a pitch to score NU's first run. Sebald faced just four batters in the second but allowed two runs on four hits in both the third and fourth to fall behind 4-1. Lindsay Obremski (Williamsburg, Va. / Dubois Area) singled to right in the bottom of the fifth to score Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc. / Mary D. Bradford) but neither team would plate another run, giving St. Cloud St. a 4-2 win. Sebald pitched 3.1 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits against 17 batters before Casey Brown (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson) came in to pitch 3.2 innings. Brown allowed just a single hit against 12 batters to close out the game. Tostrud and Hayley D'Avilar (Georgetown, ON / Christ the King Catholic Secondary) plated the runs for Northwood while Obremski and Look picked up the RBIs.

The Timberwolves again scored first. After leaving two runners on base in the first, sophomore Andria Gietl (Plymouth, Mich. / Ladywood) scored Laura Walton (Clare, Mich. / Clare) on a double to right field. The Greyhounds answered in the bottom of the fourth to tie the ball game at 1-1. After Northwood left two runners on base in the top of the second, Indianapolis took advantage of two triples and a single to score four runs in the bottom of the inning. NU was able to score two runs on a Look single, but the deficit was too great. For the game, both teams registered six hits and didn't have a single error. Northwood left just five runners on base, as Gietl was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run. Walton and Ashley Lynn (Garden City, Mich. / Garden City) scored the other runs for the Timberwolves. Look also finished with a pair of RBIs. Vanessa Ewing (Maybee, Mich. / Dundee) picked up the loss after allowing four runs on five hits against 21 batters and registered six strikeouts.
