Softball Splits Pair Versus Minnesota Schools

CLEMONT, FLA. – The Northwood University softball team split a pair of games versus school from Minnesota Thursday afternoon (March 12). The Timberwolves started the day with a 9-3 win over Southwest Minnesota State before falling to Minnesota State 5-0.

Northwood is now 2-9 on the season. Southwest Minnesota State stands at 8-7, while Minnesota State is 11-8.

The Timberwolves took control of the SMS game early on, scoring a pair of runs in the second inning. NU added one in the third, three in the fifth and three more in the sixth to open up a 9-0 lead. Southwest Minnesota State platted two in the six and one in the seventh to cut into the margin.

For the game, Northwood out-hit the Mustangs 15-7. Both teams finished with one error for the contest.

Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) was the key offensive player for Northwood. She went 4-4 in the game with a double and four RBIs. She had RBI singles in the third and the fifth and a two-run double in the sixth. Hayley D'Avilar (Georgetown, Ont./Christ the King Catholic Secondary) had two hits and three runs scored, while Lindsey Obremski (Williamsburg, Va./Dubois Area) had two hits, one RBI and a run scored. Ashley Lynn () added two hits and a run scored. Vanessa Ewing (Maybee, Mich./Dundee) picked up her second win of the season, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five.

Against Minnesota State, NU had a hard time getting their offense going. Northwood finished the game with three singles and no extra base hits. The Timberwolves did draw four walks in the game but left eight runners on base. The Mavericks scored on in the first, one in the second and three in the sixth to put the game away.

Northwood will play a pair of games Friday (March 13). The Timberwolves will face Lock Haven at 9 a.m. before taking on Central Missouri at 11 a.m.
