Softball Splits Pair At Ohio Dominican

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Northwood University softball team splits a doubleheader at Ohio Dominican Sunday afternoon (March 29). Northwood dropped a 2-1 game before posting an 8-4 win in game two.

Northwood is now 4-13 overall, 1-1 in the GLIAC. Ohio Dominican stands at 5-21 overall, 1-3 in the GLIAC.

The Panthers led off with a homerun in the opening inning of game one. NU left two runners on base in the third but was unable to plate a run. Senior Lindsay Obremski (DuBois, Pa./Dubois) got on base to kick off the fourth before Lyndsey Look (Pinconning, Mich.) reached second on a fielding error and scored Shelby Tulk (Elk Rapids, Mich.) – who ran for Obremski. The Panthers were able to score what came to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the fourth, despite leaving two runners on base in the top of the seventh. Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) was in the circle for the Timberwolves, facing just 22 batters in all six innings pitched. She allowed just four hits and recorded three strikeouts.

In game two, Northwood got on the board early and often. Ashley Lynn (Garden City, Mich.) led off with a single before advancing to second on a bunt by Allie Patterson (Galesburg, Mich. / Galesburg-Augusta). Obremski earned two RBI's on a double to left field, scoring both Patterson and Lynn. Andria Gietl (Plymouth, Mich. / Ladywood) singled up the middle and scored Obremski to put NU ahead 3-0. The Timberwolves put another run on the board in the second when Hayley D'Avilar (Georgetown, ON / Christ the King Catholic Secondary) crossed the plate on a passed ball. The Panthers tied the game in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs on four hits and just one error. Casey Brown (Hudson, Ohio) came in to pitch for Vanessa Ewing (Maybee, Mich. / Dundee), after Ewing faced 20 batters in 3.1 innings. Northwood responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth, pulling ahead 5-4. The Timberwolves plated two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth, while holding Ohio Dominican scoreless for the remainder of the game. Despite allowing 13 hits, NU took the win 8-4. Brown earned the win and is now 1-1 on the year, after facing eight batters in 1.2 innings. Sebald registered the save after pitching two complete innings and facing 10 batters.

Northwood will travel to Tiffin for a doubleheader tomorrow (March 30). First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
