Softball Fall In Doubleheader At Wayne State

DETROIT, MICH. – The Northwood University softball team dropped a pair of games at Wayne State Sunday afternoon (April 19). NU was shutout 8-0 in a five inning game before falling 8-4 in game two.

The Timberwolves are now 13-22 overall, 10-10 in the GLIAC. The Warriors improve to 33-15 on the year, 17-2 in GLIAC play.

In game one, Wayne State scored in four of the five innings and held an 11-3 advantage in hits, while holding NU scoreless. Northwood's struggle to score came in part by leaving four runners on base.

In game two, the Warriors plated a run in the top of the second and NU responded on a Lauren Look (Pinconning, Mich. / Pinconning (Cleveland State)) double to score Meghan Franz (Toledo, Ohio / Whitmer) and tie the game 1-1. Both teams also scored a run in the second, but the Warriors scored five in the fourth to pull ahead 7-2. Northwood scored on a two-run homer by Riley Ostapowicz (Grand Rapids, Mich. / West Catholic) in the fifth but that wouldn't be enough.

The Timberwolves allowed 14 hits, while tallying six of their own.  Lindsay Obremski (Williamsburg, Va. / Dubois Area) finished 2-3 with one run scored, while Ostapowicz recorded a pair of RBI's and a scored run.

Northwood hosts Ferris State on Tuesday (April 21) for Think Pink Week. Be sure to wear pink to all games next week. First pitch against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 3 p.m. CLICK HERE for all of the softball promotions.
