Softball Loses Pair At Findlay

FINDLAY, OHIO – The Northwood University softball team dropped a pair of games at Findlay on Friday afternoon (March 25). NU fell 10-1 after five innings in game one before losing 8-0 in six innings.

The Timberwolves currently stand at 9-9 on the year. The Oilers are now 16-8 overall.

After trailing 5-0 going into the third, Andria Gietl (Plymouth, Mich. / Ladywood) hit an RBI double to score Hayley D'Avilar (Georgetown, Ont./Christ the King Catholic Secondary). The Oilers put five more runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early at 10-1 with a grand slam due to an eight-run mercy rule.

Gietl finished with a pair of hits, going 2-2. Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc./Mary D. Bradford) and Lauren Look (Pinconning, Mich. / Pinconning (Cleveland State) picked up NU's other two hits in the game. UF out-hit the Timberwolves 11-4 in the five-inning game.

In game two, Findlay led off the inning with the third homerun of the day to take an early 1-0 advantage. The Timberwolves kept the Oilers from scoring for the next three innings but were unable to plate a run as well. UF finished the game in the sixth, plating a pair of runs for an 8-0 victory.

Chelsea McManaway pitched a no-hitter for the Oilers, with eight strikeouts and just a single walk.

Northwood travels to Hillsdale on Saturday (March 26). The doubleheader is slated to start at Noon.
