Softball Places Three On All-GLIAC Teams

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University softball team placed three players on the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams, the league announced Saturday afternoon (May 6).

Junior outfielder Sydni Pauley (Wyandotte, Mich./Wyandotte Roosevelt) was named Second Team All-GLIAC. Seniors Andria Gietl (Plymouth, Mich./Ladywood) and Riley Ostapowicz (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic) each claimed Honorable Mention recognition.

Pauley posted a breakthrough junior season for Northwood. She entered this season with just 18 at-bats in her career – this year she finished with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs. Both of those numbers currently lead the GLIAC. Her 12 home runs are the second most in school history while her 42 RBIs rank third on the single-season list. Pauley ended up with a .315 batting average, nine doubles and a .694 slugging percentage.

Gietl ended the year with a .304 batting average with four home runs and 17 RBIs. She led the team and ranked eighth in the GLIAC with 12 doubles. Gietl finished the season strong, batting .467 (14-30) over the final eight games of the year. For her career, she finished with nine home runs, 68 RBIs and a .295 batting average.

Ostapowicz played mainly at catcher and designated player for the Timberwolves in her senior season. She finished the year with a .302 average, three home runs and 27 RBIs. Her 27 RBIs ranked second on the team. Ostapowicz finished her career with 90 hits, six home runs and 61 RBIs.

Northwood finished the year 19-25 overall, 10-12 in the GLIAC. NU narrowly missed out on the GLIAC Tournament, missing the event on a tiebreaker.
