Softball Splits Pair At GLIAC Tournament, Advances To Saturday

SCORE: Davenport Panthers 10, Northwood Timberwolves 2 (6 innings); Ashland Eagles, Northwood

RECORDS: Northwood 25-22; Davenport 33-19 / Ashland 23-25

RECAP: Softball splits a pair of games Friday (May 4) at the GLIAC Tournament, dropping game one to Davenport 10-2 before defeating Ashland 9-6. With their win over the Eagles, the Timberwolves stay alive in the tournament and advance to Saturday (May 5).

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Karli Godlewski and Meghan Franz each registered a run-scoring RBI.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Davenport plated five runs to make it 5-2 in the Panthers favor.
  • The Panthers tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 10-2 victory in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood's Chase Schultz got the scoring started in the second inning on an RBI groundout for the early 1-0 lead. Brooke Wauters then hit a run-scoring double to centerfield to make it 2-0.
  • In the third, Abby Joseph registered a run-scoring double to give the Timberwolves a comfortable 3-0 lead after three.
  • Ashland put their first run on the board in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI triple to cut Northwood's lead to 3-1.
  • The fifth inning proved to be a big innings for both teams. Northwood added 6 runs to their total to push their lead to 9-1. Sydni Pauley, Joseph, Danielle Bartodziej, Chase Schultz, Tara Gross, and Lauren Castellon each registered RBIs in a big scoring rally.
  • The Eagles responded in the bottom of the fifth with 5 of their own runs to make it 9-6 going into the sixth inning.
  • Ashland added one more run in the bottom of the sixth but would not get any closer as Northwood took the 9-7 victory.
