RECAP: Northwood softball goes 1-1 at Parkside Tuesday (April 12), earning a 2-0 win in game one before dropping a disappointing 5-2 contest in walk-off fashion in game two.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood got on the bard in the top of the second inning thanks to a bases loaded walk by Lauren Castellon that plated Mikayla Gronback to give Northwood the early lead.
  • The score remained 1-0 until the sixth inning when the Timberwolves added to their advantage. After a Delanie Grundman one out double got things going, NU eventually scored on an Emily Mankel RBI fielder's choice to make the score 2-0.
  • That was all the offense that Shayna Frank needed. She allowed two hits – one in the final five innings – while striking out 12 to improve to 11-3 on the season.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Both teams continued to throw the ball well early in game two – NU had chances to score early but the score remained 0-0 until the fifth inning.
  • Northwood got the scoring going on an RBI double by Maddie Coulter to make the score 1-0.
  • Later in the inning, Coulter came home on a wild pitch to push the lead to 2-0.
  • Parkside got one back on the fifth to cut it to 2-1.
  • NU had a chance to extend the lead in the seventh but left a pair of runners on base.
  • Parkside, which had only scored one run in 13 innings prior to the seventh, came up with a big inning to earn the walk-off win. The Rangers hit a solo home run to lead off the inning to tie the game then claimed the win with a two-out three-run homer.
