RECAP: Softball splits pair at Wayne State Sunday afternoon (April 25), with WSU taking game one 3-1 and NU winning the nightcap 5-2.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Grace Dutoi got the scoring started for Northwood in the first inning, scoring Maddie Coulter with a sacrifice fly to go up 1-0.
  • The score remained the same until the Warriors plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the 3-1 lead over the Timberwolves.
  • NU was unable to put any runs on the board in the seventh, giving the Warriors the win.

  • Northwood took the early lead again in game two, as Julia Gross drove home Maddie Coulter with an RBI single.
  • Wayne State got single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to go up 2-1.
  • NU still trailed 2-1 in the sixth inning with two outs when the Timberwolves put together the key rally to win the game. Karlie Moore had a big two-run double to put NU back on top 3-2.
  • Jayna Hance followed with an RBI single to make the score 4-2.
  • Coulter then came through with a run-scoring triple that plated Hance and pushed the advantage to 5-2.
  • Shayna Frank got the final six outs to give the Timberwolves the win.
