Softball Earns Senior Day Sweep Over Parkside

RECAP: Softball earns senior day sweep over Parkside Saturday afternoon (May 1), claiming a 6-1 win in game one before earning a 4-3 win in nine innings in game two.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood got going right away in the first inning thanks to a Julia Gross sacrifice fly that brought home Coulter for a 1-0 lead.
  • In bottom of the third Northwood added three runs. Gross started the scoring with two-run home run.
  • Samantha Slick followed with an RBI single to bring in Grace Dutoi and make the score 4-0.
  • Parkside scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth to put the score at 4-1.
  • Northwood responded in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Delanie Grundman RBI single.
  • Gross added one more RBI in the sixth on a sac fly to score Coulter to make the final 6-1.
  • Senior pitcher Taylor Wright made her final home start as a Timberwolf a strong one, striking out 11 in seven innings to move to 5-0 on the season.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Coulter got Northwood off to a fast start in the opening inning with a with a leadoff home run
  • Later in the first, Gross doubled and was brought home by a Dutoi single to make the score 2-0 after one.
  • Parkside gets on the board with a solo home run by Megan Aliverti to cut the lead to 2-1.
  • Northwood extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth when Coulter scored on an a four-base error to make the lead 3-1
  • Aliverti then hit her second homer of the game in the sixth, this time a two-run shot to tie the game.
  • The Timberwolves had numerous chances to win, but the score remained 3-3 until the bottom of the ninth inning.
  • After the first two batters were retired, Gross tripled to center and was then brought home on a Dutoi RBI single to give NU the win.
