Softball Wins Two On The Road At Ferris

RECAP: Northwood's softball team traveled to Big Rapids, Michigan to battle the Bulldogs of Ferris State.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Haley Frank was inches from a home run, H. Frank hit a double off the yellow line that bounced back fair.
- Ferris State walked in the game's opening run in the first, 1-0 FSU.
- Brittany Steimel tied the game in the fourth with a single through the left side to score Haley Frank, 1-1.
- Ferris added another run in the fifth via a single to right field, 2-1 FSU.
- H. Frank was HBP to lead off the sixth for the Timberwolves and went first to third on a passed ball. H. Frank would score on an RBI groundout to second by Steimel, 2-2.
- The Timberwolves play small ball to take the lead in the seventh. Jillian Krawczak led off with a bunt single down the first baseline.
- Gabby Schloop would follow Krawczak in the seventh with a walk and both would advance on a sac bunt by Alexis Koehler would advance the runners.
- Back-to-back singles by Haley Frank and Delanie Grundman would put Northwood on top 5-2.
- Shayna Frank was back to herself, throwing a complete game and allowing only two earned runs while striking out 12.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- Delanie Grundman put the Timberwolves up early with a triple just out of the grasp of the centerfielder to score Emily Mankel and Haley Frank, 2-0 NU.
- Grundman would then score on a Brittany Steimel base hit to left field, 3-0 NU.
- An FSU throwing error and two walks by Madison Jordan and Gabby Schloop would walk in a run, 4-0 NU.
- The Bulldogs would score an unearned run via an error in the bottom half of the first, 4-1 NU.
- Ferris would add another run on an RBI single in the fifth to close the Northwood gap, 4-2 NU.
- NU would break the game open with seven more in the sixth, 11-2.
- Leadoff singles by Jillian Krawczak and Alyssa Gibson followed by a walk from Schloop would get the rally started. Alexis Koehler would single in Krawzcak and Mankel would subsequently double in Schloop and pinch-runner Caroline Polites, 7-2 NU.
- A throwing error would then let Grundman reach first and score Mankel and Koehler, 9-2 NU.
- Brittany "Nuketown" Steimel capped off the Northwood offensive explosion with her team-leading fifth home run of the year.
- Anna Gustafson came in to relieve Hailey Leister in the fifth. Anna earned the save by striking out three of the final five outs for Ferris State.
