RECAP: Northwood continued their eight-game road trip with two games at Saginaw Valley State on Thursday, April 21. The Timberwolves and Cardinals are battling for the top spots in the GLIAC standings. SVSU came out hot in game one, throwing a perfect game and ending it in five innings. The Timberwolves would battle in game two as they shut out the Cardinals.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Saginaw broke through early with three runs in the first. The Cardinals scored via an RBI single to left followed by a triple to right, 3-0 SV.
  • The Cardinals would leadoff off the fourth with a single and a walk that would force Hailey Leister to relieve starting pitcher Emily Cox. Leister would only allow one run to score via two sacrifice bunts, 4-0 SV.
  • In the fifth, SVSU would get another RBI double followed by an RBI single to extend the lead, 6-0 SV.
  • SVSU would put the game away later that inning with a 2-run single up the middle to end the game, 8-0 SV.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood rallied early in the first, Alexis Koehler walked, Emily Mankel grounded to short resulting in a throwing error, the ball ending up in right field, and Koehler on third.
  • Haley Frank would knock in the game's opening run with a fielder's choice groundout to short, 1-0 NU.  
  • Karlie Moore looked to add to the lead in the fourth with a double to the right-center gap. Saginaw Valley countered with a relay throw that got the runner at the plate.
  • Shayna Frank went the distance for the Timberwolves shutting out the Cardinals in her seventh career shutout.
