Softball Hits Their Way To A Doubleheader Split At TNU

RECAP: Northwood softball traveled to Nashville to take on Trevecca Nazarene in conference play. The Timberwolves would fall in game one, 1-7, before taking game two, 10-6, behind an offensive outburst, featuring two home runs and four doubles.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Trevecca got the games started with a leadoff walk in the first. They would later score the run via a double in the gap, taking the early 0-1 lead.
  • Jillian Krawczak showed off her power in the third. The left fielder powered her second career home run (first since 2021) over the left field wall in the top of the third, 1-1.
  • The Trojans repeated themselves later in the third with another walk to the leadoff hitter that later was driven in with a double to right center two batters later, 1-2 TNU.
  • Still in the third, two singles gave the Trojans a bases-loaded situation. TNU's next batter laced a double off the left field wall, scoring two and keeping the rally going, 1-4 TNU.
  • A single deflected off the pitcher's glove gave the Trojans another with one out in the third, 1-5 TNU.
  • The Trojans continued to pile it on in the third. A two-out, two-run single to center made it a 1-7 advantage for TNU, capping off the six-run inning.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood's bats came alive in the first. Singles by Ashley Ziel and Delanie Gale left two runners on for Ashlyn Lundquist. Lundquist wouldn't leave them on base, she hammered one over the left field wall (second HR this season), scoring them all, 3-0 NU.
  • The Trojans answered back later in the first with a two-run double down the left field line, cutting the lead to one, 3-2 NU.
  • The Timberwolves' bats stayed hot in the second. Krawczak bunted herself aboard to turn the lineup over. Haley Frank doubled her to third before Ziel doubled both in to extend the lead back to three, 5-2 NU.
  • A third NU double of the inning made it 6-2, as Brittany Steimel punched one into the left-center gap.
  • TNU continued to keep itself in it. The Trojans would score two after three straight singles to begin the bottom of the second, 6-4 NU.
  • Ziel's continued her stellar game in the third. Singles by Gabby Schloop and Krawczak would leave two on for Ziel. NU tallied its third homer of the day, this time from Ziel (second HR this season), over the left field wall, 9-5 NU.
  • Coming into pitch was Brittani Mutter in relief. Mutter halted TNU's offensive for five innings. A run via a sac fly in the sixth would be the final run the Trojans could muster, 9-6 NU.
  • Krawczak would use her speed to score on a wild pitch for the Timberwolves in the seventh, extending their lead back to four heading into the bottom half of the inning, 10-6 NU.
  • Mutter would slam the door shut in the seventh, giving Northwood the 10-6 victory.
