Softball Takes Two Versus Ursuline In Decisive Fashion

RECAP: Northwood softball played the Arrows of Ursuline Saturday (April 8). The doubleheader would end in two Northwood wins. The Timberwolves won 11-0 in game one before their 9-0 wing in game two.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood got the scoring started in the second. Jillian Krawczak's single up the middle with the bases loaded led to two scoring, 2-0 NU.
  • Haley Frank followed Krawczak with a blistering triple to right center, clearing the others off the bases, 4-0.
  • In the third, Gianna Fantin's laser passed the first basemen got her to third for a triple. Two batters later, Karlie Moore roped a singled to center, scoring Fantin, 5-0 NU.
  • Following a wild Krawczak double that landed just 15 feet down the first baseline, with Moore on third, Frank single to center to score them both, 7-0 NU.
  • One batter later, Ashley Ziel drilled a double to the left-center gap, scoring Frank, 8-0 NU. Delanie Gale followed an identical double to right center to score Ziel, 9-0 NU.
  • Later in the third, a walk to Ashlyn Lundquist followed by a wild pitch and a passed ball scored Gale, 10-0 NU.
  • The Timberwolves capped their scoring with an RBI single by Madison Jordan in the third, 11-0 NU.
  • Leister had another great game by only allowing three hits, no runs, and tallying four strikeouts in a five-innings. This is Leister's second straight shutout (seventh this season).

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Defensively, Frank had a spectacular catch off a line drive hit to third base that ricocheted off Gale's glove at third.
  • Northwood started game two with a bang, Ziel's started off the scoring in the first. Her fifth home run of the year landed outside the left field fence as NU jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
  • Moving to the second, the Timberwolves capitalized on a throwing error and wild pitch that scored Fantin after her single, 3-0 NU.
  • Still in the second, three walks to Moore, Krawczak, and Ziel resulted in another Timby run, 4-0 NU.
  • Following a pitching change, with bases loaded, Gale's single to left got underneath the fielder's glove, clearing the bases as Northwood jumped out to a 7-0 lead.
  • Jordan finished off, Northwood's six-run second with an RBI single to third to score Gale, 8-0 NU.
  • Ziel capped off a great day for herself by hitting as she smashed her second homer of the game (team-leading sixth this season). Her homer was identitical to her first as it also flew over the left field fence.
  • Polega and Cox both had good stretches on the mound, only allowing just hits with zero runs. The two combined for six strikeouts on the day.
