RECAP: Northwood softball traveled to Ohio for a four-game road trip, starting off with two games versus Cedarville Friday afternoon. The Timberwolves would fall in a close game one, 1-2, before the offense exploded in game two as they would win 9-4.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 0-1 lead in the first. A lead-off single to start their offense, a walk, followed by another single put them on the board first, 0-1 CU.
  • Moving to the fourth, Ashlyn Lundquist's two-out single up the middle knotted the game at one, scoring Haley Frank from second, 1-1.
  • Situational hitting shined bright in this game. A one-out triple in the sixth by the Yellow Jackets allowed them to take the lead, 1-2. A double followed that batter, scoring the runner from third.
  • Northwood's offense would be quiet during game one managing just five hits before falling to the Jackets, 1-2.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood began the scoring after a walk and a stolen base by Ashley Ziel. Lundquist slashed a double to left that scored Ziel, putting NU ahead 1-0 in the first.
  • The Jackets capitalized on a NU miscue in left later in the bottom half of the first. A single would later score two (one unearned), putting the Jacket out in front, 1-2 CU.
  • CU's lead didn't last long, a leadoff walk to Gianna Fantin followed by a single from Lauren Bennett put two runners on for the Timbys. Brittany Steimel laid down a sac bunt to move them over before Jillian Krawczak crushed a triple to the base of the left-center wall, 3-2 NU.
  • For the third time in game two, the Timberwolves capitalized on an issued walk, this to Delanie Gale to lead off the third. Three batters later, Fantin's double to left center scored another for the Blue and White, 4-2 NU.
  • Northwood would later extend its lead to four with singles by Krawczak, Frank, and a double to left from Ziel, 6-2 NU in the fourth. Northwood score in each of the first four innings.
  • Frank made things happen on the base paths in the sixth. While on second, Frank took a hefty lead drawing a throw from the catcher that sailed into center allowing her to score from second, 7- 2 NU.
  • With a 1-2 count later in the sixth blasted a two-run blast over the left-centerfield wall. This is Jordan's first home run of the year, 9-2 NU.
  • The Jackets would add two in the seventh following a double, and two singles to cut the lead to five, 9-4, but the Timberwolves would prevail.
  • Emily Cox threw her first complete game of the year and the first of her career complete game to earn the victory.
