Hailey Leister Tabbed To Second Team All-Midwest Region By CCA

MIDLAND, MICH. – Northwood softball senior Hailey Leister was named to the 2023 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) All-Midwest Region Softball Team Tuesday (May 16).

Hailey was dominant this season, striking out 171 batters while accumulating a 1.42 earned run average (ERA), including 24 complete games as well as being tabbed First Team All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) this season.

Leister went 23-9 this season, one win shy of the Northwood single-season wins record. She also earned G-MAC Pitcher of the Week honors three times, leading the conference in wins (23), innings pitched (206.1), and saves (3), while breaking the school record for shutouts in a season (10).

Hailey's belief in herself is one of the standout traits of the senior. Head coach Gregg Sauve had this to say about his pitcher, "Hailey has a tremendous belief in not only her ability, but she believes in her teammates. She is a true leader. Every time Hailey takes the mound, she gives her team a chance to win and compete and takes her teammates on the ride with her. Hailey's results don't just show up on game day; she works extremely hard and prepares herself for success."

She finishes her career top-10 in NU history in these statistical categories; wins (31-eighth), strikeouts (254-seventh), ERA (1.91- fifth), and shutouts (12-third).

Athletic Communications Directors from NCAA Division II Midwest Region schools and conferences selected the D2CCA all-region teams. All members of the first-team all-region will move forward to the All-America voting process.
