RECAP: Northwood softball opened the 2024 season Friday afternoon (February 16) in Smyrna, Tenn. at the Music City Invitational hosted by Trevecca Nazarene. The Timberwolves began play versus Ferris St., going down early 3-0 before scoring eight unanswered to beat the Bulldogs 8-3.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead following a Northwood fielding mistake and a double in the top of the first.
  • FSU later extended their lead to 3-0 in the third via three singles and two stolen bases.
  • Northwood would score their first run of the ballgame behind a triple by Delanie Gale to right-center in the bottom half of the fourth, giving Madison Jordan the ability to drive her in with a sacrifice fly to right, 3-1 FSU.
  • Moving to the fifth, the Timberwolves loaded the bases, trying to capitalize on momentum. Ashlyn Lundquist tied it up with a single to center, scoring pinch runner Jenna O'Berry and Gabby Schloop, 3-3.
  • The fifth kept moving, and Ashley Ziel forced a fielding error that allowed Jillian Krawczak to score for the Timberwolves' first lead of the ball game, 4-3.
  • NU extended their lead to 7-3 in the fifth after a Gale double to left center, followed by singles by Jordan and Gianna Fantin.
  • Another fielding error forced by Ziel in the sixth gave the Timberwolves an 8-3 advantage. Schloop led off the sixth with a double to score the Bulldogs miscue.
  • The Timberwolves' Emily Cox delivered four innings of shutout softball to earn the win in relief.
