RECAP: Northwood softball opened their southern swing at The Spring Games in Auburndale, Fla. Friday (March 8). The Timberwolves first of 12 games started sluggishly versus Seton Hill, dropping the contest 14-4. In game two of the day, NU wouldn't be able to muster a comeback, falling to Minn.-Duluth 4-1.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Gage Lambert opened the scoring for the Timberwolves in the fourth. Her first career home run to left center put the Timberwolves up 1-0.
  • The Griffins' offense came alive in the bottom of the fourth. Seton Hill's two singles and a walk before a hit batter tied it for the Griffins, 1-1.
  • Still in the fourth, Seton Hill tacked on two more singles to extend their lead to 4-1.
  • Seton Hill would keep momentum in the fifth. Two more singles for Seton put runners on second and third before they scored on an ensuing sac bunt where a play wouldn't be able to be made at home, 5-1 SHU.
  • The Griffins scored four more in the fifth with two singles and an RBI groundout to break the game open, 9-1 SHU.
  • Ashlyn Lundquist doubled to left to open the bottom half of the fifth. She would move to third on a base knock by Gianna Fantin. Delanie Gale would plate Lundquist with a fielder's choice to the shortstop, 9-2 SHU.
  • Northwood brought the SHU lead back down to five when Jillian Krawczak led off the sixth with a single. A fielding miscue by SHU brought Lundquist to the plate. Her hit to left scored Krawczak from second and a sac fly by Fantin made it 9-4 SHU.
  • The Griffins' offense extended the lead out to 10 in the seventh behind six hits, two walks, and five runs plated, 14-4 SHU. Seton Hill would hold that lead in the bottom of the seventh to win 14-4.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Like in game one, the Timberwolves jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off a home run with this on by Brittany Steimel. Steimel's blast to right center is her third of the year and third in as many games.
  • The Bulldogs would eventually tie it with a single through the left with the bases load and two outs in the fourth, 1-1.
  • One inning later, the Bulldogs led off with a single before walking and drawing a hit-by-pitch with two outs. Duluth would then capitalize on a Northwood throwing error to score two on a play that would have ended the threat, 4-1.
  • The Timberwolves offense would fall short of the needed runs as Northwood fell to Duluth, 4-1.
