Softball Splits Series With Walsh In North Canton

RECAP: Northwood softball traveled to Walsh for a Sunday (March 17) doubleheader against the Cavaliers. In game one, Walsh scored three in the seventh to force extras before walking it off in the ninth, 8-7. Northwood took the series split winning game two, 5-1.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Walsh capitalized on a Northwood fielding miscue to start the game. An RBI single to left brought around two Cavaliers to score, giving the Cavs a 2-0 lead in the first.
  • Gabby Schloop closed the Cavs lead in the second. Her bloop single to right brought home Madison Jordan, who led off with a hit by pitch, 2-1 WU.
  • The Timberwolves would tie it with an RBI single from Ashlyn Lundquist, 2-2.
  • A first and third double steal from Lundquist and Schloop gave the Timberwolves the lead, 3-2.
  • Northwood capped a four-run second via a double from Brittany Steimel into the right field corner, bringing Lundquist in to score, 4-2 NU.
  • A Walsh solo shot to left brought the Northwood lead back to one in the third, 4-3 NU.
  • Northwood extended the lead to three with a Lundquist single to left, plating Chloe Cooper from third and Schloop from second, 6-3 NU.
  • Lundquist would later score off an RBI single to center from Steimel, making it 7-3 NU going into the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Cavaliers brought the lead back to three with a first and third play. A run would score, but Northwood would get the out at second, 7-4 NU.
  • Walsh rallied in the seventh scoring three on four hits to tie it at 7-7, pushing the game to extra innings.
  • Heading to extras, the Cavaliers led off the ninth with a triple to left. Walsh would later walk it off with a single to center, coming back from a three-run deficit to later defeat Northwood 8-7.

  • Schloop's triple to right in the third, brought home Cooper for Northwood's first run of the inning, 1-1.
  • Lundquist would follow Schloop with a single to right to give the Timberwolves the 2-1 advantage.
  • Moving to the fourth, Lundquist notched her fifth RBI on the day, doubling home Krawczak with a double to center with two outs, 3-1 NU.
  • Northwood cashed in on a Walsh miscue when Steimel singled home Lundquist, extending NU's lead to three, 4-1 NU.
  • Singles from Ziel and Gage Lambert led off the seventh for the Timberwolves. A sac bunt from Elexia Fuentes gave NU another insurance run, 5-1 NU.
  • Emily Cox went on to win her eighth game of the season, allowing just one hit going into the seventh as Northwood prevailed 5-1.
