RECAP: Northwood softball swept the visiting Lake Erie Storm Sunday (April 21) in a doubleheader. Northwood's offense came alive for a 10-2 win in game one and a 9-0 win in game two. Both games lasted a minimum of five innings.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood opened the scoring early in the first as Ashlyn Lundquist led the game off with a triple to the right-center gap. Ashley Ziel's sac fly brought her in for NU to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
  • The Timberwolves offense came alive in the third. Hits from Lundquist and Ziel allowed Brittany Steimel to hit a sac fly to left to bring Lundquist home, 2-0 NU.
  • A gap-shot double from Delanie Gale brought Ziel home to extend it to a 3-0 lead.
  • Singles from Jillian Krawczak and Elexia Fuentes scored two more as the Timberwolves jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
  • The Timberwolves offense wasn't done. In the fourth, Steimel became the first player since 2008 to have at least 10 home runs in a season (Korey Schluckbier – 11). Her three-run bomb put the mercy rule in effect. Scoring on the HR were Lundquist and Carney Salo.
  • The Timberwolves offense tacked on two more with a Krawczak single and a Chloe Cooper sac fly to right to make it 10-0.
  • The Storm tagged a two-run shot in the top of the fifth, 10-2. That home run gave us what would be our final of 10-2.
  • Emily Cox went the distance again, earning her 15th win of the season.
