Softball's Emily Cox Earns Second Team All-Region By The NFCA

2024 NFCA ALL-REGION AWARD WINNERS

MIDLAND, MICH. – Emily Cox of Northwood's softball team was named Second Team All-Midwest Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Thursday (May 9 ). Cox was one of 27 players from the Midwest region to earn All-Region recognition from the NFCA.

Cox has been a leader for the Timberwolves, leading Northwood to its first-ever conference title (May 4). She was named G-MAC Tournament's most valuable player for her work, going a perfect 4-0 mark, pitching all 30 innings while allowing just three earned runs.

The senior had a breakout 2024 campaign collecting First Team All-G-MAC honors and totaling a 19-5 record with two saves in 159 innings of work. She has struck out 138 batters, allowing just 31 free passes and bolstering a 1.23 ERA with five shutouts. Cox ranks second in the conference for ERA and wins, and fourth for batting average against (.190) and saves.

The Troy, Ontario native was named to the 2024 Tucci/ National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) DII Player & Pitcher of the Year watchlist released earlier this season (March 28). Her stellar senior season can be summed up by her no-hitter versus Ky. Wesleyan (March 30) en route to a Timberwolves 10-0 win in five innings.

Northwood's opening game of the 2024 DII NCAA Championship versus No. 2 Trevecca Nazarene is set for Thursday (May 9) at 2 p.m. CT/ 3 p.m. ET. You can stay tuned to Gonorthwood.com for an updated schedule and times.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated their student-athletes and voted for the teams. All the honorees are now eligible for the 2024 NFCA Division II All-America squads selection.
