Track & Field Opens 2024 At SVSU Classic And Wolverine Invitational

OVERVIEW 

MEET: SVSU CLASSIC / WOLVERINE INVITATIONAL

LOCATION: Saginaw Valley St. – University Center, Mich. \ Michigan - Ann Arbor, Mich.

RECAP: Northwood track & field returned to the track Friday and Saturday (January 12-13) for their first meets of 2024.  Northwood had multiple young athletes get their chance to compete.

INSIDE THE MEET - WOLVERINE INVITATIONAL

FOR THE MEN

  • Brandon Boyd was Northwood's lone competitor at the event, finishing 10th in the 3000m. His mark of 8:57.34 is second best by the Timberwolves this season.

FOR THE MEN

  • Logan Roka won the men's 800m race, finishing in 1:56.14. Roka was NU's top finisher in the event. Brandon Thompson (1:58.13) and Alex Meszaros (2:01.65) took eighth and ninth, respectively.
  • Jon Kelm took third in the long jump. His mark of 6.83m came on his third attempt.
  • In the 60m hurdles, Blake Vier and Matheu Morrison cracked the top four. Vier took second in 8.21 and Morrison fourth in 8.37.
  • Luke Eros (15.61m) and Bryce Middleton (15.42m) took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the weight throw. Middleton's toss was a new personal record (PR) for the sophomore.
  • Ben Monger brought home a top-10 finish in the 300m race, taking ninth in 37.20.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Ariel Warner took the crown in the 800m, running a PR of 2:22.69. She moves into tenth on NU's top performers list for the 800m.
  • Keiyera Johnson and Brooklyn Wolcott repped the Timberwolves in the 300m race. Both racers finished top-10, Johnson finishing in 42.81, and Wolcott just behind her at 43.05. Johnson was .01 off the program record time of 42.80. Wolcott is now fourth on NU's top-10 list for the event.
  • The duo of Emily Stinson and Kelsey Hansen took on both the shot put and weight throw events. Stinson took third in shot with a 12.78m PR mark and 10th in the weight throw. Hansen brought home sixth in shot at 12.21m and fifth in weight throw at 14.80m, a new PR. Hansen's PR moves her up to seventh on NU's all-time list.
  • Molly Kitson's 8.35 60m dash finish earned the Timberwolves their best finisher, 17th

  • Track & field is back next Saturday (January 20) as they utilize split squads as some athletes travel to Eastern Michigan for the Bob Parks Memorial and others to GVSU for the Mike Lints Alumni Meet.
