Haviland Resets Program Mile Record As Track & Field Competes At Mike Lints Alumni Meet

MEET: MIKE LINTS ALUMNI OPEN

LOCATION: GVSU – Allendale, Mich.

RECAP: Northwood track & field continued their indoor season at the Mike Lints Alumni Open at GVSU Saturday (January 20).

INSIDE THE MEET

FOR THE MEN

  • Dillan Haviland continued to cement himself in Northwood lore. The senior reset his program record with a 4:01.46 first place finish in the mile. His mark is second-best in DII this season and comfortably clears the NCAA provisional mark by eight seconds.
  • Sebastian Tesch improves his third all-time mark with a 19.81m toss in the weight throw. His personal record (PR) is now eighth-best in DII this season.
  • Matheu Morrison set his PR by clearing the NCAA mark in the 60m hurdle prelims. His 8.15 finish moves him into fourth all-time on the NU all-time list, and is t-27th best in DII this year. Morrison later finished third during the finals with an 8.23 mark.
  • Jon Kelm (22.94), Morrison (23.03), and newcomer Yamar Lyons were the Timberwolves' best finishers in the 200m, placing sixth, eighth, and 10th overall.
  • Will Nemecek matched his PR during the shot put with a 17.41m toss on his final attempt. Nemecek took third in the event while clearing the NCAA mark.
  • Preston Earl (4:17.11), Sam Smith (4:18.84), and Brandon Boyd (4:21.13) also finished top 10 in the mile with fourth, sixth, and eighth place finishes.
  • Luke Eros set a new PR in the weight throw with a 17.02m mark from his third attempt. He finished fourth in the event.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Taylor Hopkins returned to the track in the women's mile. The sophomore ran a 5:04.37 mile, which is fourth-best on NU's top performers list, along with her a third place finish.
  • Keiyera Johnson competed in the 60m dash. Johnson took eighth with an 8.17 finish.
  • Northwood's throws duo of Kelsey Hansen and Emily Stinson placed in both the weight throw and shot put events. Hansen (14.68m) finished just ahead of Stinson (14.66m) for fifth and sixth in the weight throw invite.
  • Rebecca Hoonhorst finished tenth in the long jump. Her best leap (4.47m) came on her third attempt.
  • Brooklyn Wolcott took seventh in the 400m race with a 59.86 finish. Her mark lifts her to ninth on NU's all-time performers list.
  • Katherine Haupt (2:17.77 PR) and Ariel Warner (2:20.55 PR) placed fifth and seventh respectively during the 800m. Warner now moves to seventh on NU's all-time event list.
  • Sarah Zehr repped the Blue and White in the 3000m, finishing third overall with a 10:26.69 PR. She is now fifth all-time.
  • Northwood 4x400 team consisted of Wolcott, Warner, Hopkins, and Haupt. The team took home a third place finish with a time of 4:06.63.
