Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season At IWU Polar Bear Classic
OVERVIEW
MEET: INDIANA WESLEYAN POLAR BEAR CLASSIC
LOCATION: INDIANA WESLEYAN – MARION, IND.
RECAP: Northwood track & field opened their outdoor season at the Polar Bear Classic in Marion, Ind. this weekend (March 22-23).
INSIDE THE MEET
DAY 1 - FRIDAY RESULTS
FOR THE MEN
- Lucas Oberle placed fifth in the men's 5K at 15:01.44 which is a new personal record (PR) for the junior. He moves into eighth on NU's all-time performers list for the outdoor 5K.
FOR THE WOMEN
- Riley Hacker and Molly Dickinson placed in the top 10 of the women's 5K race. Hacker's sixth place, 18:48.08 finish was the top NU finish with Dickinson taking 10th in 19:07.75. Both times are new PRs for the racers.
DAY 2 – SATURDAY RESULTS
FOR THE MEN
- Jon Kelm and Arthur Powell IV ran the 200m, finishing ninth and 10th respectively. Kelm was the first Timberwolf to finish at 22.21 with Powell .03 behind at 22.44.
- Kelm and Blake Vier had virtually identical finishes in the 100m races. Vier's 10.93 finish was .01 ahead of Kelm's 10.94 mark.
- Kelm also took second in the long jump with a 6.98m leap during his second attempt.
- Vier won the men's 110m hurdle race with a 14.46 PR finish. This moves Vier up to sixth of NU's all-time top 110m hurdle performers list.
- Preston Earl's 4:01.42 finish in the 1500m earned him a third place finish.
FOR THE WOMEN
- Sarah Zehr took sixth in the 5K Invitational on Saturday. Her 18:09.13 was a PR to start her outdoor season.
- Molly Kitson was Northwood's highest finisher after the 100m heats. Kitson took seventh at 12.81. The mark makes her the 10th on NU's top performer's list for the 100m dash.
- Katherine Haupt placed 10th the 1500m, finishing in 5:02.26.
- Jenna Gaul and Gabby Jones place eighth (Gaul) and ninth (Jones) during the 400m hurdles. Gaul finished at 1:11.44 PR while Jones finished at 1:11.50.
- Hailey Granata took fifth in the javelin with a 29.60m throw on her second attempt.
