Sebastian Tesch Breaks Program Hammer Throw Record At Raleigh Relays

MEET: RALEIGH RELAYS / TIFFLEBERG OPEN

LOCATION: RALEIGH, N.C. – NORTH CAROLINA ST. / TIFFIN, OHIO - TIFFIN

RECAP: Northwood track & field continued their outdoor season, traveling to Tiffin, Ohio for the Tiffleberg Open and Raleigh, N.C. for the Raleigh Relays hosted by N.C. State. Junior  Sebastian Tesch broke the program hammer throw record during the Raleigh Relays, where there was an abundance of DI athletes in competition.

INSIDE THE MEET 

RALEIGH RELAY RESULTS

  • Tesch etched his name in Northwood lore, breaking the program's hammer throw record with his first toss of the outdoor season at 64.13m. Tesch's mark is No. 5 in DII this season and is nearly 2m further than Northwood's previous mark set by Paul Evans in 2017 (62.45m). He placed sixth amongst 49 competitors and was No. 1 amongst DII athletes in the event.
  • Blake Vier ran a personal record (PR) of 14.19 during the 110m hurdles to take 16th overall out of 54 racers. His mark cleared the NCAA Provo mark en route to being t-10th best in DII this season. He is now fourth all-time on NU's top performer list.
  • Dillan Haviland finished the 1500m heats, placing 96th out of 208 competitors. He finished at 3:50.72, just off the NCAA Provisional (Provo) mark of 3:48.91.
  • Jon Kelm competed in the long jump, leaping 7.03m to take 12th among 45 competitors. 

TIFFLEBERG OPEN RESULTS

FOR THE MEN

  • Matheu Morrison won the 110m hurdles event with a PR of 14.33. His mark is an NCAA Provo mark and is No. 13 in DII this season.
  • Morrison also took eighth in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 56.74, which is a PR and puts him seventh on NU's top performer list for the 400m hurdles.
  • Thomas Heslip was NU's best finisher in the 400m race. The junior took fourth with a 49.25 mark.
  • In discus, Luke Eros took fifth overall with a 44.10m PR. Eros also moved his PR during the hammer throw to 50.61m.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Jenna Gaul (1:06.23 PR) and Gabby Jones (1:09.10) finished top-five in the 400m hurdles. Gaul's PR now ranks fifth on NU's top performer list for the 400m hurdles. Gaul placed second with Jones just behind in fifth.
  • Keyeira Johnson placed sixth in the 100m hurdles, finishing heat two with a 16.25 PR mark. She now is third all-time on NU's top performers list for the 100m hurdles.
  • Johnson also placed 10th in the 100m dash, finishing in 12.93 during heat two.
  • In the 400m, Molly Kitson (1:00.51 PR) and Nava Sanocki (1:01.98) earned top-10 finishes, taking third and seventh respectively. Kitson now sits eighth on NU's top performer list for the 400m race.
  • Emily Stinson (12.27m) and Kelsey Hansen (12.13m) placed fourth and sixth in the shot put.
  • The duo both set new PRs in discus. Hansen managed a 42.25m toss that earned her fourth while Stinson hit the 39.25m mark to place 13th. They moved to fifth and 10th all-time on NU's top performer list for the discus.
  • Hansen and Stinson also both set new PRs in the hammer throw. Hansen (47.45m) and Stinson (45.10m) were seventh and 11th overall during the meet, which moved them to sixth and eighth all-time on NU's top performer list for the hammer throw.
  • Kaylee Locke took eighth and was Northwood's best placer in the 800m. Locke finished with a 2:26.09 mark.
